Ask a Question
What's a girl to do? continuing the Ivory vs. white convo.

So @justmeandhim brought up a great topic. white vs. ivory!!

as you all know (well those that read my previous posts) my dress is Ivory. I picked ivory because the material in white is blinding (my eyes actually hurt a little looking at the dress) and i do not want to cause any pain for my guests lol. i was able to get an ivory swatch of my fabric and i loved it, not blinding and should show off the white beading beautifully!! cant wait to see it in person end of Feb.-early march when it comes in!!

anyways i am anal retentive also and it does worry me that white linen with a gold overlay might make my dress look dingy...but i also know a friend of mine just got married and her dress was also ivory. she had white chair covers and white table clothes and the pictures people took and are on FB look great! so maybe i'm worrying over nothing......i'm meeting with a floralist saturday so i will have to see then.

I also i'm not sure about what to do with tuxs.....i know men's wearhouse only does white and black dress shirts. i hate how ivory vest and ties look ontop of white shirts.....i'm not sure if i really want the guys to wear black shirts or if FH does......I believe president tux does have ivory shirts and will have to check them out.

my question is should all the guys have ivory shirts (groomsmen would have red tie/vest, dads black tie/vest, FH ivory)? or should just FH? or i've also been told by one of the ladies i got my dress from that she too is getting married and has an ivory maggie dress and her groom is wearing a white shirt and diamond white tie and vest and thinks it looks great with her dress. so should i do that?
I know what i should do is take my swatch to president tux and see what all these opitions look like together......

Just wondering what you ladies think?

update: starting to think ivory vest and ties doesnt look that bad with white shirt.....will have to do more research......lol

Glad I'm not the only one with the issues! lol!!

I was going to have him wear an ivory dress shirt instead of white under his tux. But BEWARE, I've heard that in rental places the ivory dress shirt can sometimes be too yellow & clash even more with the dress. I have seen pictures of a groom wearing a white shirt against an ivory dress and I think the color of the tux breaks up the clashing effect. So I think you can actually get away with this one.

As for the white shirt with ivory vest and tie it actually doesn't look bad it looks very elegant so that may be your other option to tie in your ivory but keeping him in a white shirt.  Good luck girly!!

I think it really depends on what sort of ivory your dress is. Some are very close to white, some champagne, some yellow. I would definitely take the swatches down and decide that way.
My dress had an ivory overlay on champagne, it looked terrible against white, but my sister wore ivory and her husband wore white, and it looked great. lol
