How much time did you have for planning your wedding?
We got engaged December 6th, 2007 and were not planning on getting married until October/November 2009 so we would have time to save money.
But....
My fiance's mother has muscular dystrophy and she started to go downhill, so in order to make sure she will be there, in February we decided to move the wedding up.
So we had about 9 months to plan our wedding instead of 2 years, but it is coming together.
Our biggest challenge...the money. But it is all worth it to know that his mother will be there to see us get married.

So I just wanted to see how much planning time everyone else has/had. What is the average?

by the time we get married it will have been a 2 year engagement.... if i did it over i would do it in a shorter amount of time.....but it seems that i really have been planning for a year... at least getting things done... i think a year is a good planning period

We got engaged in Dec 07 and we are getting married in Feb 09! in Cancun (we live in Ireland) so we are saving like crazy to pull it all off! Especially as H2Bs two sisters are getting married in between!

We will be engaged for 1 year and 2 months. It really goes by fast!

we got engaged last july and our wedding isn't until sept '09. over the past year I think I've got most of it figured out already...

Got engaged May '08 and getting married June '09--so a little over a year for the engagement.  I need all the time I can get!

By the time we get married we will have had 1 year and 4 months to plan and save.  We got engaged May '08 and we will be getting married Sept '09.

we've been dating since 2005 and so we got engaged in Feb 2007 and then we wanted to marry July 7 2007 but we pushed it back and now it's 8/8/8

We got engaged July 6th, 2007 and our wedding is this October 18th....so that's about 15 months.  There's never enough time in the long run!  lol
That is so wonderful that his mom will be able to enjoy herself and see her son on his happiest day....bless you all...

We got in engaged in November 07 and are getting married in September 08 - we changed our original date of September 09, for a similar reason as you, our older generations (grandparents mostly) are getting up there, and live far away. We'd rather have them there and be broke for a while - then to take the chance that they won't be with us on our big day. I'm happy with our decision even if it means I can't go shopping much this year! :)

from the time I started planning to the time of the wedding it will be just about a year.

We got engaged since August 23rd, 2005 but we were both in school so we decided to get married once we're finished. As far as planning goes, I started in May (of this year) and I'm getting married in a month. I know....I'm a nut but I pretty much have everything planned thanks to my good connections; )

WEDDING IN 10 DAYS!!!

I don't understand the point in waiting two years or longer, why bother to get engaged if you are going to prolong it for such a long time!!! no offence to anyone, but when my fiance asked me to marry him, that means he is ready to be married RIGHT NOW, not 2, 3 or more years off... the only reason why i had to plan it a year off was becuase the vendors were already booked!!
