This story comes with a bit of a prelude which makes it all the better and kind of funnier, so let's begin...
It all began with the summer from hell! My poor Christopher was quite the frequenter in the emergency room, probably more this summer than ever in his life! First diagnosed with Type I Diabetes which had gone undetected for so long he became very sick and close to going into a comma. Shortly after we got his health under control and clear of hospitals, he broke his collar bone during a beer league softball game in which it was our first night as subs! ha ha ... what luck your thinking right? Well, after a painful thirty minute ride to the closest hosptial we learned he broke it so badly that it had shattered into three pieces which would now require surgery! The surgery would consist of a metal plate that would hold the pieces of the bone together. He was informed of two major stipulations - first recovery meant absolutely no work for the summer and two (strangely) no flying due to atmospheric pressure on the plate (I did not know of this second stipulation)! Not realizing he couldn't fly I told him of my plans to buy him a plane ticket to come to Washington with me so that we could watch my brother play his first few games in the WHL this season. He said there was no way he could go because we wouldn't be back until after the first week of university. I told him knowing from previous years of school that the first week is usually filled with sylabuss reviews and nothing much more exciting than that. Anyways, I was a bit dissapointed with him because we had always said that we'd try to go on a holiday a year, and this was the prefect opportunity. seeing as i was not going to give up on the matter, he informed me that he could not fly anyways due to the surgeons orders. That ended that and two days later (a Wednesday) i was on my way to Washington with my parents and without my Christopher.
I was completely bummed that he wasn't there with me knowing i wouldn't see him for two more weeks. After arriving is Washington I texted him like crazy over the next two days as naturally he had me in a permanent six month frenzy always worrying about his health and what other bad luck may come knocking at his door. Weirdly his texts were few and far in between which had me even more down. Finally Thursday night he texts me saying his phone has been acting up and he wont have it for a few days. At this point i am pretty down and not to mention the sorest i have ever been in my life from a weight class my girlfriend had brought me to for the first time the day before the trip. I wake up Friday so sore that I can't even lift my arms without feeling a sensation of extreme pain followed by naseua worse than a pregnant woman could imagine! Good old delayed onset muscles sorness! That night was the first game my brother was to play and I was in so much pain, i had decided it will be best to skip the shopping and sleep most of the day so that i can actually be able to lift my arms and cheer that during the game. Well, my mom comes into our hotel room and wakes me up with only 40 minutes before the game. I was still so sore and feeling aweful that i thought baggy sweats couldn't be more attractive at the time. My mom looks at me and starts nagging to go change so that i look like a civilized woman! I complain saying no way my sweats are good enough for a hockey game. However, she is not giving up without a battle! At this time I am thouroughly annoyed and decided it might be easier to just change and fix myself up enough to not look like death!
We get to the game and the arena is fairly packed! Roughly 4,500 people in attendance. We grab our seats while I am still in utter pain from the butt whooping i recieved at the gym two days before. However, I am doing one of my favourite things in the world, watching my brother play semi-professional hockey live. At this point i was pretty into the game despite everytime i cheered or clapped i was wishing i had a vomitt bag near me just in case! At about the ten minute mark into the game the annoucers had asked for everyone to focus their attention to the megatron for a special annoucement. I looked up to see " ? Aimee will you marry me?" I instantly got butterflies in my stomach because the specific spelling of the name tis not common thinking 'could this be for me?' However, the rational Aimee says "get a hold of yourself girl, your in the USA now not Canada ... there are a million other Aimee's. Plus Christopher couldn't be here because he is back home recoverig and cannot fly" At this point there were so many things running through my head that I didn't even notice my mom two seats away snapping pictures with the digital like the paparazzi! I almost jumped out of my seat when Christopher came from behind me. There he was, but how...? I was immediately crying thinking "oh my goodness it is me!" He then got down on his knee and asked me to marry him, right there in front of all these people! Like a bawling baby I said yes and slipped the beautiful ring he had customed made for me onto my finger! We were officially engaged Friday, August 29th, 2008.
After the prelude to this story, you may thinking "the flying thing was just a lie the whole time!?" Well, he sure didn't fly! In fact he and my parents had been planing the whole thing for over a month. The not being able to fly was actually a ligitimate excuse. He and his brother had instead driven 26 hours striaght to get there. They had left an hour after my plane had taken off the Wednesday. The faulty cell phone texting excuse was gievn because he and my dad had been texting back and forth to arrange everything and fine tune everything to be executed. He was worried that he might send me a text ment for my dad by accident, thus eliminating me from the text circle would be best! On that friday, he had been hiding in the same town as me the entire time, while i was mopping away because i was lonely picturing him laying in bed in his sling! I am also thankful for the help of my family and my mom who saved me from looking like death blown over on my engagement day... thanks mom! It all made sense afterwards. Christopher and his brother stayed for the Staurday and left the Sunday so Christpher could in fact make it back on time for the first day of University. What a sweetheart, could a girl ask for anything more!
Thanks for reading my wonderful story ... hope you enjoyed!
