EPIPHANY!!! Hats or no hats?
Now, I haven't fully thought this idea through yet, BUT I found this lovely vendor on http://etsywedding.blogspot.com/ and they make this great vintage-y looking hats and I thought..."What if my bridesmaids wore hats (or something of the sort in their hair)?!"
They could each pick a different one, kind of like a personality piece, and that would their special accessory for the day. So now I'm thinking everyone can either wear the same dress and have different flowers and hats, or they can still pick whatever dresses they want and have similar flowers and hats (I want them to have options, but I need some cohesiveness). So like I said, I haven't thought this out fully, but what do you ladies think? Hats/head accessories or none??? |

Wedding Hair Style
Hair and Makeup Ideas
Idk what happened to my initial post (prob didn't save it?)...But my goal is to have beautiful hair that's not fussy or "overdone." As of now, I keep a pretty low hair profile in my daily life (save for proms, galas, and other formals), so some major concoction may be a little much for such a memorable occasion.
I got most of the pics from essence.com and theknot.com. I think I just googled and found Eva though. Enjoy! |

Ask a Question
What readings are you having during your ceremony?
I was just wondering what readings you all were planning on having during your ceremony. What feelings would you like conveyed in them?
I found the ones I'd like read before and after The Man and I exchange our vows and they both bring tears to my eyes. Hopefully they touch our friends and family in the same way and further express the love we feel for one another. They're kinda long, but here they are (retrieved from theknot.com): (BEFORE VOWS) From the The Alchemist "When he looked into her dark eyes, and saw that her lips were poised between a laugh and silence, he learned the most important part of the language that all the world spoke -- the language that everyone on earth was capable of understanding in their heart. It was love. Something older than humanity, more ancient than the desert. Something that exerted the same force whenever two pairs of eyes met, as had theirs here at the well. She smiled, and that was certainly an omen -- the omen he had been awaiting, without even knowing he was, for all his life. The omen he had sought to find with his sheep and in his books, in the crystals and in the silence of the desert. "It was the pure Language of the World. It required no explanation, just as the universe needs none as it travels through endless time. What the boy felt at that moment was that he was in the presence of the only woman in his life, and that, with no need for words, she recognized the same thing. He was more certain of it than of anything in the world. He had been told by his parents and grandparents that he must fall in love and really know a person before becoming committed. But maybe people who felt that way had never learned the universal language. Because, when you know that language, its easy to understand that someone in the world awaits you, whether its in the middle of the desert or in some great city. And when two such people encounter each other, and their eyes meet, the past and the future become unimportant. There is only that moment, and the incredible certainty that everything under the sun has been written by one hand only. It is the hand that evokes love, and creates a twin soul for every person in the world. Without such love, ones dreams would have no meaning." -- Paulo Coelho (AFTER VOWS) From the Beyond Words Daily Readings in the ABC's of Faith They say they will love, comfort, honor each other to the end of their days. They say they will cherish each other and be faithful to each other always. They say they will do these things not just when they feel like it, but even -- for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health -- when they dont feel like it at all. In other words, the vows they make could hardly be more extravagant. They give away their freedom. They take on themselves each others burdens. They bind their live s together... The question is, what do they get in return? They get each other in return... There will always be the other to talk to, to listen to... There is still someone to get through the night with, to wake into the new day beside. If they have children, they can give them, as well as each other, roots and wings. If they dont have children, they each become the others child. They both still have their lives apart as well as a life together. They both still have their separate ways to find. But a marriage made in heaven is one where a man and a woman become more richly themselves together than the chances are either of them could ever have managed to become alone. |

For the Lover in You
a "Vintage Romance" affair
Like many ladies I've gone through various colors, ideas, inspiration boards and found it EXTREMELY difficult to combine all of my thoughts, visions, and feelings into one unifying theme...but I've finally found it and I think it's THE ONE!!! (Drumroll please...) Vintage Romance!
I settled on this theme after taking into account a few things: the song I'll walk down the aisle to (Chrisette Michele's "Golden"), our first dance song (Raheem Devaughn's "Mo Betta"), these 2 dresses I can't get my mind around, a simple yet beautiful invite, and this gorgeous picture I found that will serve as a nontraditional centerpiece for my mismatched tables. Both songs have an old-school feel to them and describe love in a way that both The Man and I both deeply understand it to be. The dresses, well, they're self-explanatory. Just gorgeous and timeless. What brought it all together was really the inspiration picture. As soon as I saw it, it SCREAMED vintage romance. It reminded me of back-in-the-day when women used to be courted, doors were opened, and chairs pulled out. That's how The Man treats me and I want everyone to get that feel again on our special day... |

Foot Washing Ceremony
Beautiful and spiritual or just awkward?
Idk where I got the idea, especially because I haven't been able to find a lot of information on the idea online, but I thought a foot washing ceremony would be beautiful and very spiritual in a wedding. The idea would be to do it in place of the candle and/or sand ceremonies to symbolize the vow to remain humble and serve each other equally in marriage. Since this isn't common, an explanation could be printed in the program and readings done to get the audience caught up.
Here are links to 2 different ways (the first at the ceremony and the second at the reception) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXntSV9St4Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ou_o1ps0js I think it's a great idea in theory, but it still seems very awkward while in practice... What do you ladies think? Have you ever heard of/seen this? |

We're going for a rich vintage feel, but what vibes are you feeling from this color story? (Be gentle, it's my first attempt at an inspiration board!) This is an updated one...I finally found a decent sized picture... ![]() |
