Any RSVP advice, ladies?

After reading COUNTLESS horror stories about people crossing out and adding guests to RSVPS or just not even sending them back I kind of want to nix paper RSVPs all together.

My wedding website has a section for people to RSVP (that does not allow for adding people not on the guest list, which is handy!) so I was thinking of noting that on the invitations as well as my cell phone number for anybody unable to RSVP online (grandparents and other elderly guests for example).

I will work on the wording, but it would be something like:
"Please RSVP by XX/XX/2012 via www.weddingwebsite/aksunflower or 907-555-5555"

What do you think? I realize that it won't look as formal as the paper RSVPs but it'll save us money and more importantly it'll save us stress.

I've been thinking the same thing. I haven't decided yet if I will do a website  for RSVP or not. I was also considering customizing an RSVP on Vistaprint. It would list the attendant and a place to check accept or decline, then at the bottom plus one guest and accept or decline. I also don't people to think they can bring more than one person. Still in the working stages. Website might work, and I think a lot of people choose that option. Just keep pondering, it'll come to you.

Definitely reccommend online RSVP!  I know someone who had both RSVP and paper (guests had to fix their own stamp to send it in).  If you're stuck deciding, maybe you can do both?

Anyways...here's my experience online:

I nixed the paper RSVP altogether and thought it was great.  Saving you stress is the big one.  Seems like no matter what you do, people forget to RSVP.  Paper RSVPs take more work to figure out who's RSVPd and who hasn't.  Online puts all the information in an excel spreadsheet so it's easier to organize.  It's also easier to gather a bit more information....like asking guests to list allergies to mention to the caterer.

Most of the older generation going to my wedding are on facebook, so I assumed they could RSVP.  The wording on my invitations was pretty much exactly what you had, but I asked them to e-mail instead.  Those who I didn't think could RSVP online, I either gave them their invitation in person or called them myself after I mailed the invite.

I did worry a bit because the one I used wasn't password protected and didn't limit the number of guests.  If you want to put more work into it, there are websites that have RSVPs where each guest has a unique password (My cousin printed the passwords onto a clear label and manually stuck it onto the invite).  When a guest logs in and types in the password, their name shows up with boxes they need to fill out.  If you've allowed them to have a guest, there would be a second box.  I can't remember what website allowed that....it could be momentville, but I'm not quite sure.  In the end for me, I found everyone was great.  Nobody abused the ability to add extra guests.

I have many "older generation" people who will not use email or a website.. and not having a formal RSVP will offend them, so we're sending the paper RSVPs with the website on them as well. I may not see some of these relatives again since they are up there in age, and I don't want them to not come over something so small --and they would do that.. they're stubborn  old germans!   :-)
