alybrand's Blue Wedding Blog - Wedding By Color http://www.weddingbycolor.com/alybrand Mon, 13 Oct 2008 08:26:07 PST en-us I am Mrs. Shellhart! - finally married! http://www.weddingbycolor.com/alybrand/milestones/18991 http://www.weddingbycolor.com/alybrand/milestones/18991 Fri, 01 Aug 2008 13:54:00 PST I am now Mrs. Shellhart!! Whoo Hoo! Luv it! We had soo much fun! I wish we could do it again and again! ;o) So here are some of the ceremony pictures - I will post reception pictures when I get them too. I will also post the goods and bads and all the craziness that we had later. It is inevitable - nothing is ever going to go absolutely perfect, but luckily most of it does. But just to point out- since it was OUR wedding day, it was absolutely perfect in every way. I think the best part of it all was the way Brandon looked at me all day - I have never seen him so happy. Ladies it is the greatest feeling to have your man look at you that way! You have one beautiful day waiting for you! The photographer did such a nice job - thanks to Vladimir Triska. I definitely recommend him and his wife Irina to anyone! It was worth every penny just to all of those brides out there considering whether or not to have a professional. At least schedule one for an hours worth! www.voirphotography Oh! Thank you gratefulbride and everyone who commented that was thinking of us on our wedding day! That was so sweet. ]]> My Menu's! - Hmm... http://www.weddingbycolor.com/alybrand/milestones/16153 http://www.weddingbycolor.com/alybrand/milestones/16153 Tue, 08 Jul 2008 15:20:00 PST So here are how my menu's turned out. I think I like them! I had plenty of time to obsess over them (and the book Twlight) seeing as I was sick all weekend with the flu! yuck. * Anyways I am not sure if I like them better in color or black and white? *]]> Grooms Cake Practice! - The little things that make him happy ... http://www.weddingbycolor.com/alybrand/milestones/15798 http://www.weddingbycolor.com/alybrand/milestones/15798 Sat, 05 Jul 2008 06:21:00 PST This is a dinosaur cake my sister and my three adorable nieces and nephews made together! We are going to make one for Brandon's Grooms Cake. I am going to have all the neices and nephews help make it because it is super easy to make and soo fun to decorate! He is going to love it! I am especially excited because the one thing Brandon is most excited to get from our wedding registry is this silly green silicone dinosaur cake mold from target! I think sometimes we get so caught up in the little details and crave so much perfection that we forget that the little and the most unperfect things make us the happiest! I love the little things that make him happy - it is too easy! ]]> Ask a Question - I'm confused and don't know what to do. http://www.weddingbycolor.com/alybrand/milestones/15502 http://www.weddingbycolor.com/alybrand/milestones/15502 Wed, 02 Jul 2008 14:33:00 PST Ok, so I didn't think this would ever happen, but someone actually took the liberty to invite and rsvp themselves to my wedding! I was looking through my RSVP's on my website and noticed a name that was definitely not on my list! It was an old "friend" from high school who I haven't talked to in years. Actually, the last time I saw this friend, she completely snubbed me and walked away! What is going on? Why does she want to come? She rvsp with another friend of mine, so she must of assumed she was invited!? But this is the ceremony. It would be one thing for the reception I could probably handle that, but to the ceremony? This is supposed to be a private close friends and family event. And my MOH just called me confused wondering why (lets say) a 'Karrie' called to rsvp to my bachelorette party when she didn't have her on the list! Obviously that is a no, but she is seriously stocking me. What am I supposed to do? I am not trying to be like 'oh you can't come to my birthday party' (I know this is different), but how do you tell someone no, without hurting their feelings? She obviously really really wants to come. But brings drama everywhere she goes. She must have assumed that because we used to be friends five years ago, it's ok... I have too much to do than to call and figure out feelings with this person. I could talk to my friend that obviously thought it was ok to invite her, but that will still hurt feelings and burn bridges in the end. But I don't know what else I can do if I don't want to be stressed out about it. I don't know, should I just buck up and let her come? Or say screw it - it is our wedding? Anyone else have a similar problem? ** UPDATE ** first of thanks everyone, I am calming down and realizing that this is not such a big deal. I talked to my MOH and she is totally comfortable telling people NO. Thank goodness. She is just going to call her back and say she has to keep to the list, Alyshia's orders because she wants it small. As for the wedding I am just going to call my other friend who seemed to invite her that we only have limited seating. And that's that. I liked timsgirl's idea to just maybe say to have lunch with her some other time. WHEW!,]]> Ask a Question - What is everyone doing to keep the wedding fun? http://www.weddingbycolor.com/alybrand/milestones/15416 http://www.weddingbycolor.com/alybrand/milestones/15416 Wed, 02 Jul 2008 04:16:00 PST So Brandon and I might be a little on the untraditional side, but we wanted a way to keep the wedding fun for our guests and for us. So here is a list of what we are doing! movie Homemade "movie / slide show" of Us: My sister and I edit and make movie videos & slide shows, so we are going to make up a funny & sentimental scheme about Brandon & I to show. We are doing the LIMBO instead of a garter toss: We figured it would be soo much fun to watch all of our silly groomsmen compete for the 'ultimate prize' lol. Maybe a Cabella's gift card? For the ladies we are doing a scavenger hunt to get a basket filled with all kinds of goodies instead of a bouquet toss. They will need to go around and ask the guests for a tissue, a pencil... Of course the guests at the reception will have a warning, so they aren't bombarded with crazy girls! We are going to serve krispy kreme donuts as part of the dessert! Yum! Dare Jar: I got this idea from the Martha Stewart website. You place little dares in a jar and guests take one if they are feeling risky. You do stuff like "Kiss the bride" (idk know about that one though - I wouldn't want some of the guests there to get that one) and "Talk to someone new" "Ask the flower girl to dance with you" "Tell the groom that you love him too", just silly, fun and safe stuff like that. What are you going to do to keep the party moving? (lol, sorry to repeat. I just noticed some of the blogs out there with the same question - we are all on the same page today!)

My DIY invitations - I finally had time to post them! http://www.weddingbycolor.com/alybrand/milestones/13511 http://www.weddingbycolor.com/alybrand/milestones/13511 Fri, 13 Jun 2008 08:23:00 PST So here is how they turned out! Whew. Assembling them was actually a lot easier than I thought they would be - (but I usually expect anything I do to be difficult). ** I posted how I made them below this blog to help spark ideas for other DIYers out there!** I think the worst part about them was getting the picture right. I was so picky about how the wording looked and how the color turned out. I was at Costco all the time trying to get the pictures to look how I wanted and still I am not completely happy, but finally Brandon and Mom said - enough - and made me just order. I am a really bad perfectionist ( OCD! ) ]]> Making the Invites! http://www.weddingbycolor.com/alybrand/milestones/13508 http://www.weddingbycolor.com/alybrand/milestones/13508 Fri, 13 Jun 2008 07:53:00 PST So here is how I made my 120, 5x7 invites: Cost $135
(without stamps)
First I wanted the picture to be right: See picture #3 1. I placed the picture I wanted into powerpoint. Then I played around with all different fonts, colors and wording to get the text to look just right on my picture. I found some fonts that I liked too such as 'Helinda Rook,' 'Penman Scrpit,' 'Scriptina' at: shanbritedesign. I ended up using Monotype Corsiva and Edwaridan Script. 2. When I liked how my picture and the wording looked, I adjusted the page in powerpoint to a large view, so that when I copied the picture I didn't lose quality. 3. I pressed 'Ctrl' & 'Print Screen' and opened the program Irfanview. (If you don't know what this is, it is a free picture editing program that I absolutely love, you can download it free here: irfanview) 4. I pressed 'Ctrl' & 'V' to paste my copy into irfanview. It looks confusing at first because you think you are still in powerpoint since it copies the whole view of the screen you were just at. 5. From there I cropped the image back down to the original picture size (left click and adjust to size, then press, edit: crop selection) 6. I saved my file and uploaded it to costco's photoshop online to be printed as a 5 x 7. It took me about 15 pictures (& 4 pick-up visits) to find the right one. 7. If I found the wording to be too light or the picture to be too dark, I went back to powerpoint and did this again. (I edited my picture's brightness in Microsoft Office Picture Manager). 8. Once I liked a picture I ordered all 125, 5 x 7's . (I only did a few extra pictures, because you can't really mess them up too bad when making the invitation). Cost: $50.73 Before I assembled - I got my supplies! : 1. I called a local print shop and asked if they had the heavy weight cardstock of the color terrestrial teal in the Astrobrights (Most of the time they do, but they order it and a day later it comes in). You can google all different colors in the Astrobrights online or go to the shop to get samples of the Astrobrights or other colors. 2. Ordered 160 in my color (So I could mess up, but I had a ton of leftovers) and had them cut the cardstock to the dimensions: 5 x 14 1/8 (the extra 1/8 is so the invitations can fold). With the A-7 (5 1/4 x 7 1/4 inches) envelopes the cost came to be $39.73 3. From there I bought a bone folder, small rectangle hole punch, glue dots, and ribbon in a nice contrasting color at Michaels. (I needed 41 yards for 125 invites or about 12 inches for one invite). Make sure to bring coupons if you go to Michaels as they will take coupons from JoAnns. I also had a ruler, pencil and eraser handy. Cost: $40 4. For my ceremony inserts (that I pasted in the invite), I just formatted 6 of the my design to a page. (If you want the template I used, just email me and I can send it to you). I found the design for the top at the shanbrightdesign website too. Make sure to view it in print preview, so wording isn't cut off. 5. I printed a couple samples on white paper to make sure they fit right into my invite and then printed about 19 pages (for 125 invites) on my computer using the cardstock ink option in printing preferences on the Terra Green cardstock paper in the Astrobright. 6. Went to Kinko's to get them cut (about a $1 a cut, but they do all the pages at once - I had four cuts). I made a sample with lines where I wanted them to cut, so I had even and centered inserts. 7. Did the same for the maps. I did my maps in Word in the drawing pad and used the shapes option to arrange my lines. I looked at a map from mapquest to get my lines and streets right. Bring your girls to come help!: 1. First I printed my wording in the front of my 5 x 14 1/8 pages on my printer in the cardstock printing option. (I did this before I folded). See picture # 5 for how it looked before I folded it. 2. Then I whole punched little rectangles into the top parts of the paper. See picture # 4 2. Then time to fold. Measure and mark with a pencil 3 1/2 inches with the ruler on the top and the bottom. Place the ruler down against the marks and take the bone folder pointy edge to make a crease along the ruler. Erased the little pencil marks. Then fold the paper and slide the large part of the bone folder along the crease to make a nice crisp crease. Did the same thing for the other side. Make sure the 5 x 7 picture fits in the opening. See picture # 6 3. Take the glue dots and place them on each corner of the picture. It should fit exactly in the center. Once the glue dots are down there is no return. On one side I placed the ceremony insert with glue dots and on the other I placed the map with the glue dots. 4. From there I cut 12 inches of ribbon to make 120 or so strands. 5. Placed the ribbon through my hole punched holes and tied a bow. DONE So that was basically how I did it. You can always email me if you are still unsure about something?! Well, I hope this helped inspire and not wear you out!]]>

Maybe I will use them both, but I used the first one on my invites. Anyways, for anyone who doesn't know how to make a monogram, this is what I did. And it was very easy to make, I placed a bunch of fonts in powerpoint, made my design and saved each monogram on a seperate slide as .jpg. Then I went to paint or irfanview to edit and center the design. ]]> Marriage License - We are almost legal! http://www.weddingbycolor.com/alybrand/milestones/12588 http://www.weddingbycolor.com/alybrand/milestones/12588 Wed, 04 Jun 2008 15:03:00 PST So we went to get our marriage license! It was fun and kind of stressful. Brandon is not close to his real dad, so he was having problems knowing all the info. We spent along time calling people and still aren't officially sure where his dad was born. We are thinking Germany. Anyways, I guess know your information before you go! It was also fun to see our names in the newspaper under the marriage licenses! I found out today that after the wedding I will have to remain legally Alyshia "R" for awhile instead of being Alyshia "S" due to the licensing boards I will be taking for nursing this summer. Whatever my name is now has to be what my name will be when I take them or I have to wait a whole 60 days to process my new ID... ugg. Brandon doesn't know yet, he will probably be kind of disappointed, but I will still be Alyshia "S," just not legally!

I want to invite just those I am close to, but I don't want anyone with hurt feelings because really all 33 of us have been through a lot together. I would LOVE to invite everyone, but that is just not necessary. The wedding is a month after we graduate, so maybe I can get away with sending out those particular invites late? Ahhh, what do I do?! What have you guys done in these "toughy" situations? Another thing- True that when you invite just one person you know you need to "add + 1 guest"? Is everyone following that rule to the tee? So I am really bummed. Brandon originally ordered my ring back on Thanksgiving weekend and it still hasn't come in yet! At first they told him it would come by December 14th, but then since my finger is so small (3.75) they said it wouldn't come in till Jan. 10th. So Brandon had to use a borrowed fitted ring for the initial proposal. That was fine. So... Jan. 10th rolls around and they push it back another two weeks and now it was been its "almost here" or " it should be here any day now!" ever since! It is March 3rd, more than 3 months since he ordered it and still no ring. This is really annoying me! They keep telling me something different and I get all excited to pick it up and then they tell me they don't have it! The fitted ring has been worn so much that the fitter has come off and I have just given up trying to wear it. My poor ring just sits in its little box. What should I do? Is this normal? I am not trying to complain, but I wish they could just tell me one thing and stick to it! I have been patient enough! ** UPDATE ** So it came in on March 8th, but it was just to make sure it was the right size before they set the diamond in. It did fit fine even though I asked for a 3.75 and it was a 4, but I am thinking I will try the 4 out and if it is not as snug as I want it I will have it refitted after the wedding. Now it should be completed by the 13th. I'm crossing my fingers that there will be no more complications!

Well, it has always been a joke with me and my grandma, since I was probably about 12, that I would serve Taco Bell at my wedding because we both love it so much and for a change we could eat real food at a wedding! SO, I thought it would be fun to add taco bell along with our other Hor d'oeuvres! We wouldn't leave the tacos wrapped and they would be presented in a nice way.... What does everyone think of Taco Bell? Would it be fun or does it sound cheap? Or any other ideas of food that you LOVE?

*** Thanks everyone for their opinions! So far they have been very helpful. I will ponder the idea some more - maybe I will do it for just part of the reception - we'll see...**** ]]>

(I was having an internal blue color crisis), but all is well now. Some of the blues still don't match up "perfectly," but I am a major perfectionist. It will probably change images periodically. yipee! ]]> Something Fun - DIY Spa Day http://www.weddingbycolor.com/alybrand/milestones/4480 http://www.weddingbycolor.com/alybrand/milestones/4480 Fri, 15 Feb 2008 17:55:00 PST
