Bridesmaids
or my Bridesman
What would I do without a gay man in my life??? I have to idea and I
would never like to find out. I have been friends with my best friend Matt for 12 years and we have been like jam and peanut butter, without the bread for as long as I can remember. Here are the top five reasons why I love having a gay best friend: 1. We can talk about clothes, fashion, Lady Gaga, you know the stuff that Jason really can't relate to. 2. I have a date to events that are extremely feminine in nature like the ballet, musicals, Tori Amos...you know the stuff that I would have to drag Jason to. It's easier on the two of us if I can find someone else to go with me. 3. He allows that bitchy, over-the-top, New York girl out of me....Every women has a persona like this in her, but you need a gay man to bring it out. 4. I can do facials, lounge around in our sleepwear, talk about hot men and watch 50 episodes of Oprah without being judged, because we do together 5. It's like having a ying to the domestic, heterosexual yang. He brings me down to earth when I am to high in the wedding planning, baby making, housecleaning clouds. He reminds me to get out and dance once in awhile. Check it out, if only Ophelia had managed to have a gay in her life, things would have gone quite differently: Same goes for Juliet, the classic tragic love story would have taken a turn for the better: The best thing about this whole set-up is that Jason loves Matt and respects that balance that he brings to my life. So here's a toast to the most wonderful and important men in my life, my soon-to-be-husband and my sassy gay best friend. *MAWH* |

Wedding Flowers
Sometimes you just know....
Choices, choices, choices...I finally nailed down my florist after some tossing and turning and begging and pleading. It sounds like a lot of drama....but it was. I met with three different florists all with separate visions of our day but in the end I (we....after some begging and pledding) chose the more expensive one but she also cared the most about OUR wedding.
Here's a cost comparison break down: This is what I asked for from all 3 florists. Rustic, elegant, earthy flowers, wild flowery, not compact : Bride Bouquet and toss 2 Bridesmaid Bouquets 4 Corsages 1 large vase arrangement for ceremony and guest table. Rose petals for ceremony 20 table arrangements 1st florist - Came in at $800. Got the rustic, country flowers, not too impressed with overall vision. Didn't get where I was coming from. Seemed like she was just filing another order. 2nd florist - Came in at $1000. Got the rustic, elegance part of what I was looking for. Used flowers that are more common but still wanted something different. Nice and friendly. 3rd florist - Came in at $1300 was inspired and artistic. Got the elegance and rustic feel I was going for but made in unique and earthy in ways that the other florists didn't get. She was just as excited as I was. So excited that she brought the cost of the centerpieces down by $10. My budget was $1000, so all I need to do is find another $300. I think at the end of the day it's important go with your gut and my gut is saying that I am going to get more bang for my buck with the last florist. What flowers is she using for my bouquet: New Zealand Pitt (it's not a flower but a vegetable) Purple lisanthus Green viburnum Purple kale Green hanging amaranthus Seeded eucalyptus Lavender roses Purple amenome Lucedenron Brown feathers Centrepieces Heather Waxflower Dianthus Stock Purple aster (Like someone walked through a garden and picked fresh flowers.) I have attached some pictures of inspiration that I used to show my florist. The 4th picture was my dream bouquet...most of the flowers are in there. I AM SO EXCITED!!!! |

Ask a Question
AHHHHH!!! Jewelry
I am having a really hard time deciding what to wear for jewelery. It's super hard to commit to buying something when you can't try it on with the dress. I have looked far and wide, including my mothers jewelry box and friends. Been through the mall, Winners you name it, I have been there with a frown on my face trying to piece it all together.
Everyday I jump on Etsy and hope that there will be something that peaks my interest. My dress was such a easy purchase that you would think that everything else would fall into place as well. Today I stumbled upon this. I really want a bracelet over a necklace as I think I might have too much going on with the headpiece and the dress. So what do you think about the earrings the bracelet and the dress together??? |

Bridesmaids
Dresses
The long awaited dress for my bridesmaids is finally being posted. This dress no word of a lie was found by the lovely Suz for $90. I loved the dress as soon as I saw it. We did take pictures of the girls in their dresses and with me in mine but those pictures were lost with the camera, alas I can't prove it but they look lovely together better than I could have asked.
I have also attached a pictures of the bouts and the girls fascinators. Both items were purchased on Etsy. Gotta love it. I have been able to find so many items from such talented artists. I have no idea what I would do without this site. Slowly things are starting to come together but I always have such a hard time trying to piece it all together in my head. I get so overwhelmed with all the options available to me. I have left the girls in charge of getting their own shoes. They were unable to agree on something together and I am not a stickler for having everything matchy, matchy. |

DIY Wedding
Oh Martha...
Save the dates...to love them or to loath them. As mentioned before we had wanted to do a video save the date but with conflicting schedules with the camera man, I figured out after a few months that it just wasn't going to happen. I didn't want to give up the idea entirely, enter Martha Stewart Weddings.
Much to my delight I found the cutest DIY save the date on the website and wasn't so upset about the loss of the video. Cut to 2 weeks later, me pulling my hair out and completely losing the feeling out of the tip of my index finger. Here's where these little gems where found: http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/photogallery/creative-save-the-date-cards It wouldn't have been so bad if I had a number puncher but I couldn't find one so I traced them out through a stencil and then cut the little holes out. That was the worst part. Tying the little ribbons second best, then to actually finishing them. Got some of the maids and the man to help me but I was a number nazi, I couldn't help it. Every number would have to go through an inspection by yours truly and only some would make the cut. I eventually had to lower my expectations, so we could finally get them finished. I definitely learned that you can't do it alone!! I also wasn't joking about losing feeling at the tip of my finger. Cutting little circles into numbers can be hazardous to your health. It's actual a phenomenon related to loss of circulation in your hands, but no worries your damaged endings rejuvenate themselves. So, I didn't have to cry that my hand was ruined over our save the dates. Jason and I had a pretty good laugh about it. So all and all, would I do them again? Hells no!!! Too much work and little satisfaction, but they did seem like they would be a good idea at first glance. How did your save the dates go? Where did you look for inspiration? |

New color inspiration
While browsing Once Wed today I fell in love with another purple wedding. The bridesmaid dresses are almost the exact same color. I love how everything was tied together so well. This is when I fell in love with ERIN.
Erin Ever After....I suggest you go here NOW...http://erineverafter.blogspot.com/. She keeps a very interesting and inspiring blog worth checking out for ideas. There are some great posting for DIY. One which is flower fabric garland, which I am totally going to make. I AM ALL OVER THAT. Check it here, http://erineverafter.blogspot.com/2009/11/make-this.html I am not too sure if I am going to us the fabric garlands at the wedding or the ceremony but I am going to need something at the ceremony to spice things up. Which bride have you fallen in love with either her or featured on other blogs? |
