Wedding Invitation
HELP: DIY Tri-Fold invitations

Okay so I found these invitations and I am determined to make them. The only thing is, I cannot find anywhere how to do tri-fold invitations. So I thought I could turn to my fellow WBC brides for some help (: If someone has found, or could give me step by step instructions for tri-fold that would be great (really just the folding part, not the inserts). I also need to know what paper size to use - would I use the standard 8 1/2 x 11 or do I need something bigger. Just let me know. Thanks!!

What size are you wanting the actual invitation part to be?

Hmm I guess I never really thought about that. What would be a good size? Honestly I am clueless - haha

I have made these before, and it's fairly simple.

Use 8.5x14 (legal) cardstock.

Before folding, cut the 'triangle' out that will act as the window for the RSVP, map etc. - this can be done easily with a ruler and a box cutter knife.

- Once cut, hold the card so the cut edge is on the right.
- Fold the cut edge in to the left 3.5"
- Fold again (over on itself) 4" in
- Fold the left hand edge over as far as it will go to the right (fold it over until it meets with the already folded paper.
- unfold - get some adhesive and glue the edges of the first fold (this will cerate your pocket to hold the RSVP, map etc.

I hope this helps - I know, it's kinda hard  to understand without pictures!

If you need help designing the inserts for the trifold (invitation, map, RSVP and belly band) drop me an email: invitationinspiration@gmail.com

I design wedding invitation and stationary and then the DIY bride prints them and assembles them - I have a bunch of examples on my WBC page along with reviews from the brides I've done them for!

Good luck, and happy planning!!!

Well...there are tons of templates out there for pocket folds, which is essentially what you are looking for, I think.   I have seen 5X7, 6X9, and up to 12X12.  Really you can go with any size you want.  Keep in mind the bigger you go the more expensive they will be.  You'll need to decide what size you want before we can talk about the rest of the details, paper size, folding lines ect.  I would Google pocket folds and get a feel for a size you like.  Then let me know and I'll help you out as much as I can.

As for being clueless, don't feel bad.  We were all clueless at one point in the planning process too!  lol!  We've all been there.

I just sent you a message :)

The normal size for these types of pocketfolds are 5x7" when folded. There are tons of other sizes you can go with, but this is a standard size that will fit into standard A7 envelopes (5 1/4" x 7 1/4")

I ordered mine from enveloperinc.com under DIY Invites-pocket invites.  Their site might be worth looking at, even if just for some ideas.  I think I did mine 7 x 7, but be careful if you do square b/c it costs a fortune in postage! i learned the hard way.  I have some pictures of my invites on my page and they are in the same color scheme too.  Yours are adorable!
