Rehearsal Dinner
Asian Inspired
So I think I have decided on an asian-inspired theme for our rehearsal dinner. My FI LOVES Chinese food....so that is where the idea came from. I'm thinking of ordering chinese food to serve, and have lots of pretty asian-inspired decor. Some bamboo stalks as decor too...I love bamboo. Now I'm on the search for some pretty modern asian-inspired invitations.
**UPDATE** I ran this idea by my mom, and she kind of gave me that *look lol.....and she said hors d'ouevres would be more than enough. But the thing is the rehearsal is at 5:30, and most of our wedding party will be coming straight from work, so they probably won't have time to eat dinner before the rehearsal, so I think they're going to be pretty hungry by the time the rehearsal is over, so I thought it would be nice to give them an actual meal. |

Ask a Question
Rehearsal Dinner Colour Scheme Ideas?
So we have changed our rehearsal to thursday evening before the wedding instead of friday evening. There is something going on at the church all day friday until 7:30, and we wouldn't have been able to have the rehearsal in the church til 8:30, and then wouldn't have time to have a dinner with our wedding party because we have to be at the reception hall at 10pm to setup. Soo anyways the rehearsal at the church is now thursday at 5:30pm. So I'm planning on having a dinner for our wedding party afterwards at my parents house. My colour scheme for the wedding is black, burgundy, lime and cream, but I'm thinking I want a different colour scheme for the rehearsal dinner. Any ideas? Also, I'm planning on serving mostly some pre-made hors d'ouvres, but I would also like to bake a few things (since I'm on vacation the week before the wedding, so may as well take advantage of that time :) ), any suggestions or recipes?

Wedding Invitation
Wording & Etiquette Information
I've seen a couple of posts recently about invitation etiquette and wording. So I thought I would post some information for you.
if you are having a non-denominational wedding or outdoor wedding, your invite should use the wording "Request the Pleasure of your Company". If you have having a religious wedding or it will be held in a church, your invite should use the wording "Request the Honour (Honor) of your Presence". Invitation Wording Only the parents who are financially contributing to the wedding should have their names on the invitation. Obviously there are circumstances where you may want to have both parents names on there, or none at all. It all depends on the family situation. For instance, my FI's parents are divorced, and neither are financially contributing to the wedding, my parents are paying for half the wedding and we are paying for half the wedding. So we decided to use the wording "Together with our Parents" rather than "Mr. and Mrs. S and Mr. H and Ms. M....blah blah". When Bride & Groom Host: Allison Margaret Edwards and Joseph Reginald Ernest request the honour of your presence at their marriage on Saturday, the sixth of June two thousand and nine at five o'clock in the evening Christ Our Saviour Church Whitby, Ontario Reception to follow at six oclock in the evening Tosca Banquet Hall Whitby, Ontario Bride's Parents Host: Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Johnson invite you to join them in a celebration of love as their daughter, Allison Margaret is united in marriage to Mr. Joseph Reginald Ernest son of Mr. and Mrs. William Ernest on Saturday, the sixth of June two thousand and nine at five o'clock in the evening Christ Our Saviour Church Whitby, Ontario Reception to follow at six oclock in the evening Tosca Banquet Hall Whitby, Ontario Bride, Groom and Parents Host: Allison Margaret Edwards and Joseph Reginald Ernest together with their parents invite you to join them in celebrating their marriage on Saturday, the sixth of June two thousand and nine at five o'clock in the evening Christ Our Saviour Church Whitby, Ontario Reception to follow at six oclock in the evening Tosca Banquet Hall Whitby, Ontario Bride & Groom's Parents Host: Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Thompson and Mr. and Mrs. Wiliam Ernest request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their children Allison Margaret And Joseph Reginald on Saturday, the sixth of June two thousand and nine at five o'clock in the evening Christ Our Saviour Church Whitby, Ontario Reception to follow at six oclock in the evening Tosca Banquet Hall Whitby, Ontario Groom's Parents Host: Mr. and Mrs. William Ernest request the honour of your presence at the marriage of Allison Margaret Edwards to their son, Joseph Reginald Ernest on Saturday, the sixth of June two thousand and nine at five o'clock in the evening Christ Our Saviour Church Reception to follow at six oclock in the evening Tosca Banquet Hall Whitby, Ontario Both Parents Host, One set of parents is divorced Mrs. Lucinda Jones and Mr. Nicholas Edwards And Mr. and Mrs. William Ernest invite you to join them in a celebration of love as Allison Margaret is united in marriage to Joseph Reginald Ernest on Saturday, the sixth of June two thousand and nine at five o'clock in the evening Christ Our Saviour Church Whitby, Ontario Reception to follow at six oclock in the evening Tosca Banquet Hall Whitby, Ontairo There are many other wording possibilities, especially depending on family situation (ie. Father and Stepmother are hosting, A parent is deceased, etc). Check out www.verseit.com for other invitation wording. Adult Only Reception Etiquette If you don't want children at your wedding, you have 2 options: * When addressing your invitations, leave the children's names off it and also don't mention them in the invitation. * Have friends and family pass the word around that you don't want children there. Gift Registry and Gift Etiquette * It is considered rude to put "cash only gifts", or other wording meaning the same thing on the invitation, or enclosed in the invitation. * You're not supposed to put registry information on your wedding invitation. It's left up to friends and family to inform everyone. However, you can put gift information on an insert in your bridal shower invitations. FB Says: If you have a personal wedding website with info for bridal party and guests (and gift registry info), you can include an insert with the link to your website in your wedding invitation. |

DIY Wedding
New Stuff completed!!
Last night I spent a couple hours doing some of my DIY things. I make a cake stand.
Cake Stand Costs: 24 x 24" hardboard from Home Depot- $2.77 (they cut it for me for free) Small piece of wood for the base from Michaels- $2.69 Teardrop beads from Beadaholique- $6.00 Smal beads from beadaholique- $8.00 fishing line from Walmart- $2 Glue- free Total- $21.46 for my cake stand. I also made a final mockup of how my favours will look when they are wrapped. I'm very happy with how they turned out. I designed the favour tags and had them printed at Staples for $1.64. The boxes I bought from Uline for $26 for 100 (I bought 2, and am selling the extra 70), and the ribbon I got on sale at Michaels 2/ $6. I bought white foam board to make my Thank You sign for our photos in the park. I want to use the photo on our thank you cards. I love this idea, but I'm not happy at all with how the writing looks. I'm thinking of having it printed onto large paper and then glue it onto the foam board, I think it will look a lot better. The love sign I bought from Michaels for $1.50. They had a bunch of different words: live, laugh, dream, smile, etc. Very cute idea. Sorry the glue isn't try in the picture so it looks weird, lol. ***UPDATE*** I took LaRhonda's advice and glued the tear drop crystals to the center of each side so the crystals drape. Thank you for the fab advice! It looks much better! |

Ask a Question
Flowers & Bouquets...to DIY or to not DIY?
Ok so originally I had planned on ordering my bouquets pre-made from a wholesaler, and then just purchasing bulk roses to make my own centerpieces. This is the cost of everything:
My bouquet pre-made $59.99 3 BM bouquets pre-made- $34.99 each 7 boutonnieres- $8.99 each 2 corsages- $18.99 each shipping 49.99 175 bulk roses TOTAL= $639.38 with taxes If I order all flowers and make my own it would cost: 175 bulk roses for centerpieces, church flowers, etc. 75 roses for bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres $40 shipping =$444.60 with taxes I'm torn on what to do. My grandma is amazing at floral arrangements, and was offered a job at a florist (but she turned it down), and she has said she would help me with all my flower arrangements. I don't know what to do. If we DIY then I will save almost $200, but I don't know if I want the hassle of having to make the bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres and the centerpieces. I'm having all the flowers delivered the day before, in the morning, so we have about 5 or 6 hours to dedicate to making everything. What should I do? |
