Hi Ladies,

My FH is catholic and has always wanted to get married in catholic church, and I thought since he has been so good and is letting me have most...alas not all...of the things that I want for our wedding, why not do this for him..

So, I came to him last week and said 'Baby, I think church photos look better, lets get married at your church' long story short, he is the happiest man, didnt even realise it eamnt so much to him until then

Now, its chuch for us.....
Any of you ladies getting married through Catholic Church?
please help me understand, any information will do, from what I could gather from our first counselling, they seem pretty strict....

Can we decorate the church?

I'm not Catholic, and wasn't married in a Catholic church, but I would assume rules about decorations vary from church to church.

One friend of mien who was married in one was allowed to decorate all she wanted, as long as there were no holes/staples/tape/glue. Nothing that could harm any of the surfaces.

She said the pre-marital classes were awesome. I know the priest had to approve all the music first, she ended up doing all instrumental because he didn't feel her songs were appropriate for a sanctuary. But knowing her, she probably asked for an ACDC song :P

That is a gorgeous church, btw!

Thanks sweety,

I worry beacuse they take everything so serious and I dear am far from serious despite the fact that I am an Accountant...lol

They inisted they interview us before counselling sessions, FH had to get hs baptsal certificates which is as old as he, they verified it on their records, then called us for interview.....FH kept sending me things I need to know, Gosh felt like was going for job interview...

But Father Steve was great, he obviously related more with FH and myself, he did mention something about music, couldn't ask a lot because my Baby was behaving very funny, I think he thought it was rude to ask questions, kept giving me the looks....

I look forward to their counselling sessions, I just hope my Baby tones down a bit, he just goes into another mode, I cant tab, when we are around Father!

I'm getting married in a Catholic Church, and it's FH's Church - and I'm not Catholic.  So I was really unsure as to what to expect but things have been great.  The priest has been really thorough, I think they just really want to make sure that you are ready for the commitment of marriage and ready to be with each other forever and so on - which is part of why they do the counselling, so that you 've talked about the big things before hand.  They just really make you understand that this is a lifelong committment.

Everything has been fantastic with our Church so far.  I did have to change some of my music choices, but I like my new ones even better - they are all instrumental except for FH's cousin is singing during the signing of the register.  So that's all good, and we are only doing a couple of flower arrangements for decoration but I'm sure we could do more than that we have just chosen not to.

You'll be fine, just go with the flow and it will be perfect.

We're getting married in a Catholic Church. I originally didn't want to because I'm not Catholic, but my fiance was raised Catholic and it was really important to him..so I agreed. But rules and such vary from church to church and also priest to priest. We haven't really gotten into much with our priest yet.. but he's kind of been a sticklier about certain things.. so we'll see how it pans out.

I was born and raised catholic and my FH is becoming catholic so we we are getting married in a catholic church, some are more strict than other but it really is not that bad, you can decorate the church unless your church happens to have a rule against that but ive never seen that happen. if you have any questions just email me lcl89@hotmail.com good luck!

Congrats first of all and Happy planning! My FH is Catholic and I am to be confirmed this April. The catholic church is strict in some regards, but who can blame them. Marriage is serious. Some churches allow you to decorate, some allow minimal, some none. The focus of the ceremony is mainly the sacrament that the two of you are taking. The counseling classes are great! It brought me and my FH closer together than ever. If you go to
http://www.sacredhearthouston.org/ our church has a listing of all the readings that most catholic churches allow to be read at your  ceremony, so this will save you on scrambling through the bible looking for readings. It has a lot of information that may be helpful to you. Check with the person in charge of the church and they will also help you in the process. Good luck to you!!

there is a canon law, which says prohibition about the catholic church and practice. Try to have one for further readings. But in my studies. It is allowed to decorate the church. Hired singers could also be a creative way to make the wedding alive. What is important are the couple and not the aesthetics. There is this seminar about wedding before you actually have the actual ceremony. Just visit the parish or the church where you want to held the ceremony. Also try the Santo Domingo Church in Quezon City, Philippines. It had the longest isle from the door to the altar. Many chooses that because it is the best way that they could expose their beautiful gowns.

I thinks its already been said but I know that it changes from priest to priest. We are getting married in a catholic church and i know that there are lots of people in our marrage classes that are not all catholic. I believe that it is up to the priest. If he will marry you then great. Some of them have rejected people in the past, the first church we inquired at rejected us because we lived closer to another catholic church. Just go in with an open mind and be greatful no matter what the response.
As far as decorations... I know that our church always has flower arrangements and such so we're not getting anything like that. We have made our pew bows and thats about all that we're taking care of .
Hope that helped, and good luck :)
