Ask a Question
DJ vs Ipod

Hi Guys,
So i've been on graveyard shifts the past few nights at work so haven't really been able to do much in the way of "planning". But I did get a chance to think about music... alot!

My question to all of you is.
1. Did you have a DJ or other form of music for your reception
2. Pros/Cons

FH wants an incredibly expensive DJ to play songs that I have on my Ipod? It seems silly to me when we could just play that for free? The hall we have hired has all the equipment to plug an Ipod/Iphone/MP3 player in and it plays throughout the hall.

I can say that I am for a DJ all the way...I have been to a few weddings with Ipods and they ended up being a bit of  failure.

Pros to a DJ are that they do more than just play music they run your day...time for toast, cake cutting, first dances, etc.  Mine provided the mics for the ceremony and all that, which an ipod doesn't have, but most important to me is that at a lot of weddings if the music isn't clicking for people DJ's can change it and real people it in...Ipods can't.

it def would be cheaper and save lots of $...however u do gotta way pros and cons...because to me a dj isnt just there to play music, they are what entertain ur guest and ur announcer. also they provide have dance lights and other uplightening that makes ur wedding look better :)...these things make a difference at a reception..however if this things dont matter to u and seem like a waste then id just go with the ipod, but make sure to have a back up plan in case for sum reason ur ipod fails..i heard one story where for sum reason the ipod didnt work and they got stuck with no music, no first dance etc.....but using an ipod is def a great way to save money :)

i'm with the other girls, while having an ipod can be great the dj does more than just play music.  they read your guests and change things up based on what your guests are dancing too and what gets people up on the dance floor (whether slow or fast) and they can more readily accomodate requests whereas an ipod is sort of difficult to do that with.  it would just be much less of a hassle to do the dj - but that doesnt mean it has to be an incredibly expensive one.  our dj is really reasonable and ive been to wedding's they have done before and it was THE best dance ive ever been to.
