Pink Petticoat = done !
I took a day off from work yesterday to get a bunch of stuff done & decided to use the day to dye my petticoat.

Since my washing machine is a compact version, I went out & got a 30 gallon rubbermaid tote from Target & put this in my tub (so that my tub wouldn't end up turning pink).

Although the underlayers are a lighter pink (as expected) I think it came out pretty darn well.

What do you ladies think?

The first 3 pics are of when it was still wet.

It's from David's Bridal. I believe it's style # 795. It was about $60.

Honestly, the most difficlut part was making sure I didn't get the pink water on me. If you do it in the washing machine, it would be a heck of allot easier, but I didn't really have that option.

All I did was first fill the large tote with hot water ( & kept the tote in the tub) then dunk the petticoat in the plain water (I guess it needs to be wet before placing in the dyed water). Then I prepared the dye mixture & poured it into the water in the tote, stirred & then submerged the petticoat. Every so often, I would go in & move it around (flipping it & what-not to make sure all of it was getting dyed) I would suggest that you get a really long pair of rubber gloves & take off ALL jewelry. I had a pair of those yellow dish washing gloves & the pink water still got in. One of the most difficult parts was dumping out the water. Since it was in the tub already, I was able to just tip it but it was WICKED heavy & I ended up needing to use clorox on my tub after all was said & done (I highly doubt my fiance would like having a pink tub).

After dumping out the pink water, I filled it back up with regular water & poured in a cup of white vinegar (I read that a few people suggested it to help "set" the color). Then just rinsed again. Because I'm rather neurotic, I actually washed it afterwards as well (using normal clothing detergent) to make sure that all the pink that was going to come off did.

Oh, make sure you wash the petticoat before dying it. I guess that it may not take properly if it has any dirt on it. Oh, and if you are planning on doing a darker color (like this) it is also suggested to add a cup of salt to the dye-bath.

Good job.  At first I thought I wasn't having a dress with a petticoat, but now I'm thinking I am, so I'm excited to dye it ;)

I'll follow your great advice thanks for posting!

Yours is so super cute

That is a PERFECT pink!  How much dye did you actually use?  And how did you know what to do?  I can't wait to dye mine!
