The Proposal

Caught me off guard

I had been at my best friends house all day on Christmas Eve. We were baking goodies for the next day. I was covered in flour and cream cheese from making Pumkin Rolls. We were supposed to be at Rod's daughter's house by 4:00 to have Christmas Eve dinner.

I was running late (imagine that) and by 4:15 he was calling me wondering where I was. I told him I would be there by 4:30, and I could hear his daughters in the background yelling (playfully) for me to get there.

I went inside and asked if I could at least go change my shirt and brush my hair and put on a dab of make-up, but they insisted I come in and relax for a few. When I tried to go change clothes they threw everyone one gift from under the tree. I said what are you doing, aren't we going to do this after dinner when everyone else gets here? His daughter Jessica looks at me and says "NO I'm so excited I just want us adults to be able to open one present and enjoy the moment before the kids come in and tear into everything"
So she looks at me and says since you are the newest person at our Christmas Eve dinner, you get to open your present first. Being silly I said " GREAT I can deal with that, bring it on" I look down inside this little RED bag and all there is is tissue paper in there and when I looked up to see what the joke was, Rod was kneeling in front of me holding the ring box and he said " Honey, I know you have been waiting for this day for a long time, and I want you to know that I love you more and more every day, and I need you to be a permanent part of my life. I love you so much, will you marry me" Commence the tears, and I hugged him so hard, and of course the answer was YES !!

I was happy that he had chosen to propse in front of all his grown children, and they welcomed me into the family with open and loving arms. It couldn't have been more perfect! Well maybe the bride to be could have not looked like a wash woman covered in flour..lol It really was perfect!
