My flower girl's outfit.
So it has been awhile since I have posted. My Nana passed away and my wedding took a back seat to that for sure. I had been a bit depressed about all of that, and getting back into the groove has been difficult. Finding the clothes that my flower girl is going to wear helped a lot. Especially since she is my granddaughter and she will be coming all the way from the east coast to be in HER Nana's wedding. All my invitations are done and the last of them go in the mail tomorrow. That is a relief. Working on Wedding programs now.

Grooms inspiration board
The theme for our wedding and the grooms wear was actually the grooms idea. He always said that if he ever got married he was going to wear "chucks" and it was going to be on Halloween. It is after all our favorite holiday. Honestly anything else would not really suit us. He has a soft spot of most things Addams family and steampunk. I did worry a little in the beginning of planning about our choices but when everyone jumped on board with it, my worries were assuaged.

Colors Black and Red w/a hint of Absinthe
My wedding colors, although not traditional in any way really seem to lend themselves to a Halloween wedding. The theme is somewhat Victorian/steampunk meets Addams family. Although it sounds campy, seeing things come together it all looks quite elegant. Although you will not find this color combo on any color coordinating website I think it is a nice triadic combo. The skirt and blouse is actually what two of my bridesmaids are wearing, along with the traveling top hat.

The Proposal
A cold and rainy night on the ferry...
I never saw it coming...
A little about us...I am 51 and previously married. I had met Dewey 15 or so years earlier. He was a friend of my former husband and he rented my parents house across the street from us. We associated socially and attended a few of the same parties. (One being a Halloween party at my home.) My two children loved him and he spoiled and corrupted them in fine style. I always thought that the woman who won his heart would be a very lucky lady. We all eventually moved away and on with our lives. We had communicated only once or twice over the many years. So several years after my divorce I mentioned him to Jessi my daughter and she took it upon herself to find him. She lives outside of Seattle, and found him that very day, living in Washington as well. She called him and talked for about two hours on the phone. Long story short...I ended up going to see him. For a year we had a bi-coastal relationship, and after that he invited me to move in. So off I go out west. I was quite content and we both knew this was it for us. We never talked of marriage really but knew we would spend our lives together. One night in December (Dec.14th, 2009) we were to take the ferry across the sound to meet up with Jessi and her husband for dinner at the Diamond Knot brewery. On the ferry, Dewey headed for a secluded warm corner and insisted I sit across from him rather than next to him. He began talking about us, our future and how much he loved me. He squatted down in front of me, and told me to hold out my hand (I foiled his plan as I had worn a pair of gloves-it was cold!) and as he was talking he pressed something into my hand and folded my fingers over it. The light came on and I realized what the cacophony of sounds he was making were...a proposal. I let out a string of expletives that would have made a sailor proud. He said does that mean yes? Well we know the answer to that one...hehe I am that lucky lady... |
