Unity sand is used to represent two lives coming together to form one. Typically there are two vases on either end with the Bride and the Grooms name on them, each filled with a different color of sand. In the middle is another vase with the couples new last name on it. During the ceremony theyeach pour their sand into the center container, mixing the two to become one.
