Flowers
Going With a Few, But Paying A Lot
So I have an issue with flowers normally. Ive been given flowers twice (and a single rose once) in my life, all by Ben. (One was to ask me on my first date, the single rose was for our one month anniversary, and half a dozen pink roses were sent for our six month anniversary.) Since then, weve discussed and decided that as sweet as that was, flowers die, and theyre pretty much a waste of money. We have the same thinking for our wedding flowers. I didnt want 9 floral centerpieces that are a lot of money that just go to waste the next day. So I compromised. Heres a list of the flowers were getting (all flowers are red roses):
Bridal bouquet (2 dozen): $150 Maid of Honor bouquet (1 dozen): $100 4 boutonnières (groom, best man, 2 dads): $15 a piece 3 pinned corsages (mom, step-mom, mom of groom): $18.99 a piece 25 long-stem roses: $125! Large basket of rose petals: $30 Total: $565.03, including tax It helps that we only have one bridesmaid and one groomsman. Those can get pricey. As for the long-stem roses, we have 9 tables, and on 5 of those tables will be a flower vase (more in Decorations). 5 roses for each vase. Do the math. Thought it was a good idea at the time, till I found out that mature, long-stem roses are $5 a piece! Thats the only price that made me squirm. Paid $300 deposit, and will pay the balance upon pick-up (luckily the flower shop is a whopping 1 or 2 miles from his parents house). Why do I give all these details? Because I know as a bride-to-be, its not enough just to get ideas and implement them. I want to know details and actual cost. I want to know what other brides are paying for similar things. And since I could rarely find it all in one place, thats why I include it in my blog. |
