What To Give to Non-Materialistic People
Not to disparage anyone’s lifestyle, but we don’t have much need (especially not at this time) for “stuff.” We’ve both lived on our own for awhile, so we’ve accumulated almost everything we need already. All of our furniture was bought piece by piece at garage sales (anyone have a small dining room table with at least 2 chairs available?) And we live in a tiny apartment. So the amount of stuff we need is minimal. We’ve decided to register at Target (for just a few things) and Bed Bath and Beyond. Most of our requests are kitchen upgrades, as Ben is a good cook and a great baker, so those things he wants. I threw in a few material goods just for fun (Fix-It-And-Forget-It Cookbook to go with a new crockpot, for instance). When we buy a house, we want to decorate it according to the house’s style, not our personal tastes, and since we don’t know what that style is, how can we purchase stuff for it?
But what we really want is for the guests who want to give a gift to add money to our honeymoon registry to Walt Disney World. This is a vacation of a lifetime for me, and we’re spending more than we’d like to really make it worthwhile. Disney’s honeymoon registry is very simple, and does not take fees from the gifts (you may have heard of other websites who charge 2% or something out of every gift given!) Some of the things we’ve planned that we wouldn’t have done otherwise is Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba, dining at some of the finest restaurants, and staying in a deluxe resort. (Actually, we’re getting free dining as part of a promotion, but that means we don’t have any room or ticket discounts, so I still feel like we’re paying for it either way.) |
