Wedding Reception
Anyone NOT having a candy bar?

I wasn't planning on doing this... we had chosen favors that had a little twist in the title and were something we really liked.. BUT it will be wayyy too time consuming. So, we decided to do this candy that I make, that is easy and everyone freaks out over.. and it can be made way ahead of time.. okay cool

BUT

WHY IS THERE ALWAYS A BUT????

I keep seeing candy bars, and they are so damn cute! And who doesn't love them??? I dunno. I really wanted the favor boxes on the table for the pop of color in my decor... but now i'm thinking of doing both... but we have a photobooth too which is a favor, ahhhh help me!

For those who are doing them, are they pricey? What's your experience with them... I went to a tasting last night/open house, and a candy/cake vendor was there.. and I loved the candy bar! Just sooo cute! I'm sitting here at work, eating my bag o candy, going.. well, maybe we should! We could do all vintagey stuff.. green pop rocks! Green Cotton Candy... omg help me! lol

OMG PEAR JELLY BELLIES ARE MY FAVE!!!!!!! AND MY MOM LOVES SOUR PUNCH APPLE STRAWS! AND I SAW GREEN GUMMY BEARS LAST NIGHT.. I THINK I'M TALKING MYSELF INTO WHILE TYPING..LOL

I wanted one because they are really cute, but we're not allowed to bring food into our reception hall. Silly, since its only candy. Oh well.

I'm feeling the same! Its like you were fine before you really considered the idea.  But once you do, you really want it! I want one, I have a major sweet tooth! I see them on Platinum Weddings and think those are only for rich people but then on here wbc,  brides are having them and so cute DIY.

I'm just thinking if its necessary :?

My reception is only 2 hrs. SO i don't know if its worth the effort, plus the additional costs of buying candy and the decor.

I think its a great idea if you can do it! Check around WBC many brides are doing this on budget and getting creative!

I like the idea of the candy buffet but for me budget wise it just wasn't really that one thing I felt I needed so bad that the cost was worth it. I guess the best thing to do is just that. Decide how important it is to you and get some pricing. If you feel you can swing it then by all means do it but if the price seems alittle steep then I would opt for something else.
The thing that made me change my mind was realizing how much the jars and the spoons were going to be. The candy isnt much but sometimes the other parts are. Im sure there are girls on here that are more than willing to help you with whatever you need. Just do a search for candy bar or tag and you should come up with tons!

Lol. We're having a candy-bar too. It's more a treat bar since we'll be having trays of things like cheesecake balls and cookies, as well. I found all my glass containers at thrift stores and probably spent under $50 for all of it and I Have too much. :) If you don't just want glass you can find CHEAP stuff that's cute and just spray paint it like this tutorial: CLICK HERE

My mom has been great and really took charge of the candy part. She's been buying candy since I decided on the option, this gave us Christmas and Valentine's Day, Halloween and now Easter with specials to get us some options. She bought red, white and pink M&Ms at Valentine's Day 1/2 off and sat there separating our the white and pink!! :D She's so nice to me. Anyway. Since she's been buying the candy I'm not sure on the price. I'm going to guess the final number to be at least $100 including ingredients for the "treat" additions. :) Anyway. Good luck!

I did a candy bar (there are pictures on my site) and we had TONS of candy left over.  We had about 150 guests and spent maybe $200 on candy, including shipping.  We had laffy taffy, now & laters, 2 flavors of frooties (flavored tootsie rolls), pixie sticks, sour punch straws, pink marshmallows, mini candy bars, sixlets, gumballs, m&ms, rock candy strings and sticks, some suckers, tootsie pops, and maybe even more.  It turned out super cute and I'm glad we did it.

ok... i know exactly what your saying... were doing big lollipos with our monogram on them for our wedding favors and we are also doing a candy station. I was thinking "why do a candy station if were giving candy out for our favors?"... so i thought long and hard and still decided to do the candy station!!! we both love candy and we just gotta have it at our wedding! We decided to add the candy station to the late sweet table at the end of the night... so were gonna set it up with cakes, cookies, fruits, and seafood in the middle of the night (about 10:30pm). We know our guest would appreciate it because everyone gets the munchies at night and they will have a lot to choose from!

Sounds and looks great but we aren't doing a candy bar.  I think it costs a lot of money to put together.  We were able to get our favors for next to nothing as I've won some really nice giveaways.  We're sticking with monogrammed fridge memo boards in their own celophane bag with a monogram sticker seal, and then we're doing "our songs" on a cd with a list of the song titles, artists, and a "thank you" message, with the cd.  I think these will be plenty.
