I ordered my dress online without ever seeing or trying it on before I bought it. I have to say I didn't know what to think the 1st time i put it on. I ordered it a size bigger than I was wearing with other dresses I had tried on. I had been hearing about the cost of alterations and I do have to admit I was beginning to panic a bit, because my dress need some major alterations. My wedding is in Sept and I still had not even gone to a see anyone about fixing the dress... I did take my dress to DB to see about the cost of a bustle being put on the dress, and can you believe it they wanted to charge me $275.00 just for a bustle not to even count the cost of fixing the bust and poss a hem.. I grabbed my dress and walked out of the store.. I could never afford those prices! I bought my dress online to save money! So I then stated my search for someone who dose bridal alterations out of there home thinking it would be cheaper.. I found a lady who have been doing bridal alterations since 1985 and had a BOOK of references for me to call.
I put the dress on and came out of the dressing room and she said.. "HMMMM UMMMM" my heat stopped, oh great what now!!! She then smiled and said "it will be a little expensive but well worth it here's what we need to do. Take it in on the top of the bust, to make it lay correctly, hem and bustle.. Here's the bottom line to fix the top will be 150.00 due to all the beading that will have to come off then be steched back on, 125.00 to hem the dress 1 inch and 60.00 for the 4 or 6 point French bustle.." she seemed a little embarrassed about the cost. I was about to jump up and down and hug her.. Everyone else was quoting me 700.00 she is charging me 335.00! Doing a happy dance!!!! Its still a lot of money but I love my dress now and its going to look soo much better!
My sisters who are my bridesmaids also had a there fittings as well and she is only charging them 35.00 to let the dresses out in the thighs and reshape the dress... What a steal!
