Things I Love About my Man...

LunaTina commented "FUN FUN FUN" in my last post, and that made me think about my grandparents. My grandma wrote that phrase in her diary the night she met my grandpa, and we love teasing her about it. (Actually, she wrote "Bob C. - Fun, Fun, Fun!")

"Fun, fun, fun" has kind of become the mantra of our wedding, and is the ultimate goal for our guests. You better believe we'll be sharing this little story with everyone, including details of the night my grandparents met! (I'll spare you the novel, and just say the night included roller-skating with friends and skinny-dipping at the local lake. Scandalous! NO WONDER it was fun, fun, fun!) ;) Kind of crazy to think that is the start to my dad's family...

Anywaaay, I got to thinking about my journal. It's been months since I've even peeked at it, and I couldn't remember if I had written anything about FH after we met. It so happens, I did(!) and I'm going to share that with all of you:

I met someone - a great someone who is everything I've been looking for, and nothing I'm not - at least, not to this point. :) N and I went on our first date in the first week of March and were a couple by St. Patty's Day. His birthday is this week, and for part of his present, I want to give him a list of things that I love and admire in him...

  • the way he holds my face in my hands when we kiss

  • that his hands can sometimes be colder than mine!
    [That's quite the feat!]

  • his easy smile

  • his considerate, caring nature

  • the little moments of affection, like reaching behind the front seat to touch my leg when I'm behind him in the back, or coming up behind me and rubbing my shoulders while waiting in line at a store

  • his fast hands :)

  • his passion and talent for art and music

  • that he's hard-working and driven

  • his goofy voices and silly ways

  • just that we're so much alike!

  • his sexy ways and sexy moves

  • the glint in his eye... "How dare you!"

  • his humility

  • Can we say good dancer? :)

  • his sense of style

  • HOTNESS! (DAMN!)

  • RIGHT brained/LEFT brained

  • that he admits he's a gaming nerd

  • his energy and what he brings to a room

  • his good heart

  • his honesty

  • how much and how easily he makes me laugh

  • movie-time! (aka cuddle-time!)

  • his creativity

  • his openness to new things

  • the little scruff of facial hair under his lip

  • the way he makes me feel

  • how his eyes smile when he looks at me

  • the way talk of marriage already slips out

  • kisses!

  • his patience with my non-coordinated ways! (And the way he offers advice and support without being overbearing or annoying!)

  • the way he acknowledges others

I LOVE THIS MAN!!

I wrote this not even two months after we started dating. We've now been together almost 2 1/2 years, and all of these things are still as true today as they were then, and with all of that time together (and more shared experiences) the list is even longer, and will only continue to grow in our marriage.

The reason I'm sharing this all with you is this is the backbone to my vows to FH (we're each writing our own) and I thought it may inspire some of you to do the same. What things do you love about your FH?

ummm that is probably the most adorable thing ever!! i started writing my vows yesterday and they ended up almost like a frickin' novel because there were just too many things to say about my guy. i think the thing i love about him the most is the way he looks at me. when he looks at me and smiles there is nothing wrong in my world, i feel so happy, so calm, so proud, so grateful that he is in my life. now i can't WAIT for him to get home from work.

ok so that is the most romantic thing ever... but listen to this.. i was dating my FN for 3 months we were in florida for my spring break and on 03/10/06 i picked up a shell and wrote in it IH "Heart" HH 03/10/06 well my initals are actually IK not IH .... so the point of this story is that our wedding date is all the numbers reversed 10/03/09.... lol the month and the day switched and the year flipped upside down... how cool is that???

ohh n i still have the sea shell... :)

IKaufman - Wow, I love that!  :)  I've noticed little quirks/reoccurances with numbers too, with our dogs, the number 7, and b-day/wedding stuff.  (My birthday is a month and 4 days after FH's, and our wedding is a month and 4 days after my birthday.)  I like to think it's not just a coincidence...  :)

lol that is awesome... yeah our numbers add to 24 (that is how old i will be when i get married) and 42(he will turn 42 in december) so i mean its kool to think about stuff like that...

n funny thing i alwaus said i wanna get married at age 24.. looks like my wishes will come true :)

Because you guys were so dang sweet with your feedback, I'm going to post my work-in-progress vows, so you can see how this  list and my vows kind of come together.  They're a little long, but it's probably the most important proclamation I'll ever make in my life, so be it.  I gots lots to say!  :)

Nate, today, I commit my life to yours.  You are my best friend, and I feel so blessed, and so lucky, that I get to be with you.  Even more remarkable, I (*I!) have the honor of spending the rest of my life with you.  I look at us and wonder how we ever got so lucky; I feel like we must have won the love lottery because you’re everything I wanted in a partner (and God knows I had a list!)... but you're all of those things AND so much more: I love how genuine you are, and the consideration you show to me and that you show for others because it says so much about your character.  Your silly ways make me laugh, and you make my heart smile over and over again; yet you can be serious, and every day, you open my eyes to new ideas, new experiences, and new things.  As if that's not enough, your talents and many passions amaze me – I am so proud of you for every single thing you create, whether it's one of your paintings, your sketches for your next children's book, a website, our annual Christmas card...it's all mind-blowing good, and you're always very humble about it, which makes it even more charming.  And I get such a kick out of your love and appreciation of music, especially when you get the fake mic out and start singing to me at the top of your lungs!  (The best part is, you sound pretty good and it's so much fun to join in!)  And I love that you absentmindedly whistle while you're working on the computer; it's one of my favorite things about you Nater and just speaks volumes about who you are and how you choose to live your life.  I could go on and on about all of the things I love about you, but basically, what I’m trying to say, is that Nate, I love you, I love you, I LOVE YOU. You are goofy and beautiful and crazy and make every day a story worth telling.  You make me a better person.  

Pretty soon it will be official, but for a long time it's been you and me: We go together; we just make sense.  I am so so happy that life brought us together.  

My vows to you are fairly simple, and come from the song Amy and Grant sang [Stay With You by John Legend]:  Nate, because I love you, I will stay with you, with life’s ups, and with life’s downs.  During the great and good times, I promise that I will appreciate the moments.  During the average times, or the mundane times when it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day activity of everyday life, I promise to pause for a minute, and appreciate all of the qualities and things you bring in to our marriage.  And when things get tough – when we lose a loved one, or dark clouds come our way – I will be with you, and together - you and I - we’ll get through it.  

Through it all, I promise to treat you the way you want to be treated and with the respect you so richly deserve. I promise to build trust with my actions and words.  You can rely on me, my love, a lot of laughter, and my companionship.  I want to make a home with you that is the place we both want to be.  I want us to be side by side as long as we're lucky enough to live, and I vow today in front of family and friends that I will love you, care for you, and honor you all of my life.

Aw, thanks TreasureChest!  They're pretty much done, just need to work with some of the wordiness of it, and I know me...I'll come back to this a month or two before the wedding and start tweaking!  :)

Wow! Thank you for sharing that. You have inspired me. I love that you use a song.

I love the way that I fit so perfectly into Jason's shoulder and I love how he smooths away my hair before placing his head on mine. I love that he tucks me into to bed, if he stays up later than I do....

What a wonderful way to get inspiration to begin to write my vows. THANK YOU.

Wow.  These are the most personal thoughts....so special.  Your Future Hubby is going to cry like a baby on your wedding day!!  If your vows include even half of these words, they will be utterly beautiful!

so this post and your vows made me tear up!  super sweet!  I did something similar for FH for a Valentine's day gift or perhaps it was an anniversary---made a card myself and wrote all the things I love about him in it.  Your vows were awesome and very from the heart.

Thanks for the comment about the National Park Pass for our honeymoon roadtrip.  I never thought about it before!  It will definitely save us money!  

Yosemite wasn't on my original list but after checking out other parks we could use the pass, it popped up so we'll definitely have to check it out!   We had also planned on stopping in Reno, but Lake Tahoe is pretty close to that, maybe we'll stop there instead!  THanks again for the suggestions!

Bananapants! sorry I hadn't respond I was out of town, and just started checking up on my girls....and I must say, you gave me the chills!  :-)  First of all, starting this blog because of I made you thing about your grandparents, how much better can it get? I must say... what an honor...
I don't know why, but you and your wedding inspire 'fun' :-)   and that is why we are all here, for us... life is great, we have love and we have the one we love, and YES! that is enough!  ;-)
We are planing the the beginning of 'the rest' of our life, and we 'can't wait' for the rest of our life to begin....
I wish you and your future husband -AKA- 'FH'.. to have a wonderful life! filled of much happiness, spirituality, health, knowledge, from the very bottom of my heart! to you and all the wonderful ladies of WBC!
I strongly believe that life is great! but even greater when you share it with others!

aw this is very very sweet! it sounds like you two are a fun couple and just perfect for each other! the part where you say "and God knows i had a list" made me smile because i totally did, too. i actually still have the list i made freshman year of high school of all i wanted in a guy. i was thinking of giving the list to him at our rehearsal dinner, and explaining to him and our friends and family that he has made me realize there were so many things i didn't even realize i wanted... until i met him. i couldn't even dream up a man with a list of qualities as wonderful as he is!
