Ask a Question
Lipstick Sealant Recommendation/Feedback?
I went in to see my esti last week (who's doing my bridal makeup for FREE because she's the bomb!) and today I started looking at makeup colors online for shade ideas to show her during the trial.
For lipcolor, originally I was planning on just going with a 2-step system, like Max Factor Lipfinity (which is being DISCO'D! WHAT?!), CoverGirl Outlast, M.A.C. has a version, etc. so I could keep the color on all night, and not kiss it off on my man, my wine glass, etc. But, I'm not loving the color choices as much. Ta da! I came across lipstick sealants, which is the same concept, only they can go over ANY lipstick. So, I'm wondering. Has anyone used these? Any brands you LOVE? Any that didn't quite live up to the hype? From a quick search on Amazon.com, here's the brands I'm considering: *Urban Apothecary SWAK/Stolen Kisses Lipstick Sealant - $18 *Lipstix Lipstick Sealer - $6 *Lipchic Lipstick Sealant - $17 *Sealed With A Kiss Roll-On Lipstick Fixative - $6 Would love to hear any/all feedback on these or any other brand! The Urban Apothecary is all natural ingredients, so that kind of appeals to me... (And the second pic? It's the color mock-up I put together for my girl, so she knows what general direction I'm aiming for with my makeup.) |

Invitation Schminvitation
Not sure why I'm feeling so anti-climactic on this. (Not that I'm against them in anyway, just kind of like.. eh, yeah... shrug. Don't really care one way or the other about our invitations, and I think it's because I know the mister's GOT THIS. He's in charge. This is HIS baby. Have at it!)
We were going to do a poster invitation, but then got a large card invite this week and liked it just as well, so we're going with that instead... we think. :) Inspiration pics on the left. When they're done, I'll post pics. Pinkie-swear! |

Market Place
Target Finds (On the Cheap!)
The Mister and I put our registries together on Saturday, and while we were in Target (scanning seemingly half the store with that little gun), I literally did a happy dance when I saw they had globe string lights back in stock for the summer. Not sure what I'm talking about? Here, take a looksie: ![]() There's is a 25' green string (with 25 lights) for $12.99. Your choice of clear glass or pearl glass, and two different sizes of bulbs, depending on whatever look you like best. This particular set allows you to string 2 strings together, so you can string up to 50'. Prior to finding this, the best deal I found was $26 for a 25' string (though I'm guessing that one was a little better quality, because you could string up to 3 sets together.) No hesitation from me. I bought 10 on the spot. Boo-yah. They don't have them listed online (for whatever reason) but if you go back to the home/garden section where they have all the new patio furniture, you'll see a shelf FULL of patio lights, and you'll see them there. Then, THEN, while I was back in there today tweaking a few registry items? I found something very similar to this, for $1 a piece in the bargain section at the front of the store. ![]() I immediately got a cart, and bought out the store. And then proceeded to the next nearest Target and bought out THAT store. They also have them in fuscia glass and green glass. Hello cheap ceremony decor! We'll be hanging them in the trees, like this: ![]() As if that wasn't enough, in the same $1 bargain section? Found my flower girl basket. Just picture a small galvanized bucket with 7 large daisy-like flowers stamped/engraved around the entire bucket. (Our flower girl is 3, so a little bucket is perfect for her size and it. is. SO. CUTE!) I'd show you a picture of it, but again, it's not on their website, and frankly, I'm too lazy to snap a picture and show you guys. Sorry. But, it's kinda like these, and the plan is to do something like shown below to doctor it up: ![]() ![]() Oh, how I love you $1 cheap finds. :) |

Writing Our Own Ceremony
A Little Update
I posted our ceremony script on here a long long time ago (in a land far far away - ha!), and today I made a couple of changes on that post, as we tweaked a couple of minor things. I figured the best way for me to let anyone know was to link that post in a new one. So, if you want to check it out, click here! Reading this is what motivated me to write our own ceremony: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Inspiration: Without question, the most successful weddings I see are ones where the couple has taken ownership of the experience and really tried to put as much of themselves into the day as possible and truly thought about the experiences their guests would have. We got a basic ceremony script from our officiant, and we re-worded everything so it was just as we wanted it. Because of that, we both meant every word exactly as a wedding should be. Those words were the reason for everyone to be there that day, and sometimes, through all the planning, its easy to forget what its all about. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Though it was a bit daunting at first, I started googling 'humanist wedding ceremony' (because we wanted a non-religious ceremony) and 'real wedding ceremonies.' Off the top of my head, Mrs. Lovebug and Mrs. Gingerbread from Weddingbee gave me a lot of inspiration with their ceremonies, as well as Sarah from 2000 Dollar Wedding. There is SO MUCH good stuff out there, and even if you aren't a great writer, you can do this too, and just pick what you like from others' ceremonies posted online. Again, if you want to see what I put together, click here. Maybe you'll find something in it that speaks to you? As a random sidenote, does anyone else find it weird that WBC doesn't have "Wedding Ceremony" as a list of title options? "Wedding Reception," yes, but "Wedding Ceremony?" No. Isn't that the WHOLE POINT of the wedding? I digress... :) |

Wedding Music And Songs
Random Choices
Ok, so I'm writing this really quick more for my sanity than anything this morning. Just trying to keep track of options.
Possible songs for the processional and/or the grand entrance: Theme from Sanford & Son Theme from The Newlywed Game Holiday Road (from National Lampoon's Vacation movies) Theme from Doogie Houser, M.D. Beethoven's 5th Disco Mix (will have to figure out the actual name to this) Uh... crap, I've already forgotten some. Will come back to this later. :) Based on our very random list, do you guys have any suggestions? |

A Non-Lovey Dovey CD
A Little Help for our Friends
So, a loooooooooong while back, I blogged about our idea to make a non-lovey dovey CD for our friends, to help the drive home go a little faster the day after the wedding, when everyone is all weddinged out (and more than likely, hungover).
The first song will be the theme song to "How I Met Your Mother." Every time I hear it, I can't help but bounce up and down on the couch! :) Hope it gives our friends a little grin when they hear it. Wanna bounce up and down in your chair too? Here you go. Just press play, and sing along! And here's the rest of the songs we're using: The only other difference is we're NOT going with the Shaggy version of "Like a Superstar," but that's the only version playlist.com had. Oh well, it's close enough to give you the general idea. :) What do you guys... er, girls... think? |

Slideshow Alternative
Video Story
First, I have to give credit where credit is due. Kismet1220 posted this video on FourEyes' post about different ceremony readings/components. Did you watch it? Trust me, you NEED to click on the play button! It's utter cuteness. Don't mind me. I'll wait.... :) This would be a PERFECT alternative for us to use as a slideshow. The FH is a cartoonist/artist, and he's illustrated a few children's books, so this is right up his alley. Have him do a quick story board of general stuff on love, or the story of how we met, or his proposal, and set it to indie music? I die. Seriously. What's NOT to love?? Yes. Yes. Yes. This puts my little centerpiece "issue" in perspective. This video will make much more of an impact than our centerpieces ever could... :) Ahhhhhhhhhh. Thanks, Kismet and FourEyes! |

Finding the Balance
Unique Details that are Us, $$$, and Time
I'm guessing I'm not the only bride that is trying to tackle all of these things. We want our wedding to be full of unique details that make our wedding "us," but are finding that this often means more $$$, or more time to make it so, and that it'd be much easier to go the more "cookie-cutter" route. I'm happy to DIY things now, but want to keep DIY projects to a minimum the day before the wedding, for my own sanity. And the $$$? Well, the less we spend, the better! Means more for the honeymoon! ;) Here's an example. I absolutely, positively, LOVE this idea for centerpieces. Combine it with the wide ribbon sash and sticker, and ooh la la! It's fresh and clean, goes with venue, and captures the laid-back, lighthearted feel we're going for: ![]() ![]() However, I don't like the thought of assembling all of these the day before the wedding. 75 sets of these (375 candles) will take some time. What if I need that time for something else, like helping set up the yard for the ceremony? What if I just want to sit with my girlfriends and eat bon bons and catch up? It's nice to have options! I know I'd feel MUCH better if I could check that off my list a few weeks before the wedding, and that just isn't doable with fresh produce. And God forbid, what if I chip my manicure while putting these together?! It'd be a travesty! (I'm half kidding...) Yesterday, I came across these blog posts during a google image search, and thought, hmm... yeah, we could do something like this. ![]() ![]() For some reason, I've been resisting jumping on the mason jar bandwagon, thinking it was a little too "country" for us. Yeah, our wedding is taking place in the country, but we are decidedly NOT country. (Speaking of finding a balance...) And it seems like the wedding blogs are overrun with mason jar mania, and I really want to keep things fresh with our own twist. But, the pros outweigh the cons, and the majority of our guests don't read the wedding blogs. Mason jars WILL seem fresh and new to them... Here's the pros: 1) My mom, grandma, aunts - all of them have TONS of extra canning jars. I like that we can reuse them for our wedding - better for the environment, and nice on the bank account, plus a great way for them to feel like an even bigger part of our day. That means a lot. 2) The genius woman that did the centerpieces above used these tealights from Ikea, because they're double the size of a normal one, so they'll burn for 9 hours, aka, all night. Brilliant! (And still cheaper than all the pillars in the original idea.) 3) Because there's no produce involved, all DIY aspects of this centerpiece can be set up well before the wedding. Less stress is a good thing! Now I need to decide, keep it elegant and unadorned, as shown in the pictures above? (Keep. It. Simple. Stupid.) Or, go with my original idea and jazz them up with ribbon and stickers, and/or dots of glitter, like these below to make them more fun? (More in line with our colors/look/feel.) These will give you the general idea, although the carmel apple one is waaaaaaaaaay too country for our taste. But the concept is there! ![]() ![]() ![]() Thoughts? Feedback? And, have you guys read this post re: wedding blog wars? The timing of this was perfect in my eyes, and kind of ties into this topic of balancing ideas, budget, DIY, and how much you want to do in planning the details of your wedding. If you follow the more popular wedding blogs, and haven't read it, click on the link! |
