First time dress shopping

I am overwhelmed with excitement right now because this evening I'm going to go try on dresses for the first time. I've been wanting to do this for so long.
My mom, grandma and 1 bridesmaid is coming with me. I think they'll be a great group to bring for varying opinions. I just hope my grandma doesn't give me a hard time if something is low cut or "needs more poof". haha

Anyone out there care to share how your experience was? Did you cry? Did you family/friends cry? Did you know you had found "the one" right away.
Please share your story of your first try on.

Try one of each style, i.e. ballgown, a line, trumpet, mermaid ect to see what style fits you the best so that way you know what type of dress to stick to.  You'll narrow down your choices more.  Make sure to let the shop know exactly how you want it, beading, crystals, pickups, lace ect.... You should get the idea once you find what style fits your body the best!  Good Luck! and Hope you find THE ONE!!!!

i agree with jvillebride2010 try on all sorts of different styles...i actually ended up with the EXACT oppposite of what i thought i wanted. and i didn't cry until they put the veil on with the dress, then when i looked over at my bridesmaids they had tears in their eyes too. i made a post about my entire shopping experience on my profile. basically it took a really dedicated sales girl to help me out. it was a little time consuming, very tired but don't forget to HAVE FUN!!!!

Went by myself for the initial look....and good thing since I tried on 20 or 30 before any looked even remotely nice.

Had an entourage for the 4 or 5 I liked (the second visit), and it worked out perfectly.

No tears, just a permagrin for the one I fell in love with.

I also agree about trying on different styles, and if you can.. go to several different stores and boutiques before picking any dress out.

You'll need help in the dressing room, so don't be shy about changing in front of someone.. those dresses are heavier than they look! lol

But most of all, have fun! :)

enjoy it!   wear a strapless bra and full coverage panties!  Depending on where you go, the bridal consultant will help you get your dress on so unless you want to be seen in all of your glory, then wear full coverage panties haaha  Also, just because a dress looks hideous on the rack doesn't mean you won't love it on you--so try anything, you'll be surprised.  There are tons of brides on here who had that happen.  :-)  And most importantly---HAVE FUN!

I took my mom on one occassion and then my FMIL and mom on another--I tried on dresses but the white wasn't cutting it.  I saw a red dress online and automatically knew it was the one--I searched high and low to find it and when I did and tried it on, I loved it.
