Seating charts
Initially I was against having a seating chart but the more I remember the last two weedings I attended, I'm changing my mind. The first I only knew the bride, groom and one bridesmaid. Fortunately i made friends quickly but the next wedding wasn't so smooth. My FI was the best man and had his time consumed without me. I was really lost at first, not sure who to sit with, getting stuck with people who didn't seem to care to talk to me. OK, I'd like to thing we have more friendly friends than that couple did but who really knows.

So I'm curious, it seems the majority of brides on here are having seating charts. Any helpful hints for organizing the seating? Those of you who aren't, do you have a reason, other than having a small wedding, for not making a seating chart? I'm starting to really see the point of it, yet I'm still not fully convinced I need one. Any suggestions?

I am having one so that way I can make sure that my friends from high school aren't stuck sitting with my 80 yr old grandmother. I know everyone that is coming to my wedding and by having a seating chart I can take the stress off of people trying to figure out where to sit and I can mix people up so that way everyone will have something in common with the people they sit with or will at least be sitting with people their own age. ie: put the single girls at tables with the single guys!

I'm not assigning specific seats but I am assigning tables for people to sit at for that very reason, people might be confused where to sit or they will be stuck sitting somewhere they don't want to be. Much smoother for  people to just go to the tables they are assigned to.

I am having guest cards displayed at the entrance which will direct guests to table and then they can sit in any seat they wish.

We're having a small wedding, but that's not the reason for NOT having a seating chart.

We're not having one because we want everyone to feel like they can move around and mingle. Most of my guests are OOT guests and they'll want to visit with each other without intruding on some stranger's seat. :-)

That said, we're having a buffet. I think seating charts are needed for a more formal affair. So, if that's your plan... do the chart.
