personalized cameras for $4.00!

Photography isn't a huge deal for us. A friend of a good friend (my two junior bridesmaids' mom) knows a guy who does photography on the side. He did her parents' 50th wedding anniversary for $150 and did a fabulous job. He will cost more for a wedding, but we were thinking of hiring him for maybe about 2 hours. That way, he can photograph us (me hehe) getting ready, the ceremony, and then the pics right after the ceremony.

For the reception, we were thinking of putting personalized disposable cameras on each table for the guests to take some pictures. The cameras come with a card that says,

"Help us Celebrate
Thank You For Sharing This Special Day With Us
We would really enjoy seeing this special day
through your eyes.
Please use this camera to take pictures of each other.
Then just leave it on the table and we'll do the rest.
(Please use the flash for indoor shots.)
We Will Always Treasure These Memories"

I know we can't rely on perfect pictures from the not-so-professional guests, but I think it will be fun for the guests. We will have a photo hosting website where we will upload them to so the guests can get pictures if they want. We have a good friend who is great at photography who does it as a hobby, so we were thinking of asking him to make sure he gets a few good photos of the cake cutting, toasts, first dance, etc.

Depending on the prof. photographer's cost, we might be able to afford to have him stay longer. But if not, this is our plan. We are not able/willing to shell out over $1,000 for a photographer, especially if we know someone who'll do it for much cheaper.

How does this sound? Tacky and cheap? It's just an idea, we haven't had our meeting with the photographer just yet.

I liked that idea too but I've heard since that you can't rely in getting good pictures. Not that you won't but don't coung on it, it's not the norm

we are placing one disposa le camera on every table at the reception. Just as a fun thing to do. We are still hiring a photographer thoug, if i can ever find one in price range i can afford.

We're going to have a few of the disposable cameras, but not a lot. It's not expensive to buy them, but remember the developing costs! My sister had some at every table at her renewing of the vows and a lot of kids took them over, so she got mostly shots of chairs and the floor and goofy faces!

We're going to put a note in our invitation and my sister (also my MOH) is going to spread the word that we're sticking with purely digital photography (digital disposable for the few that we have) and we'd like people to bring their digital cameras and get shots during the ceremony and reception.

We have three family friends doing digital photography also--one is focusing on small details I don't want missed, another is doing the posed pictures, ceremony pictures, etc., and another focusing on guests and the reception details.

Good luck!

this is a very expensive way to get pictures...i might suggest instead using everyones digital pictures!!
my cousin found a website where people can load their pictures to a personal page with a password - every girl will have a digital camera in her purse so that way you can pick and choose which pics you print!!

I agree with the other ladies- every wedding I've been to where they put cameras on the table, the kids take over. And believe what you want, but people don't always care what their kids do! My friends wedding was last weekend and she did this and half her pics were of women's chests! Some 10 y/o took them all! She was devastated. Thankfully all her friends and fam emailed her their pics. I like the idea, but only if kids won't be present. But you are getting the other guy and the first two hours are the most important!

I always said I was going to have these at my wedding, but now with the "digital age" Ive reconsidered.  Since most people bring their own digital cameras anyway, I have a table set up near the exit door with a laptop and a USB cord.  In a frame, I have instructions on how to transfer pictures from their camera to my laptop.  To make it easy, leave a folder on the desktop named COPY PICTURES HERE.  This way, both your guests and you have the pictures, and you will be able to see some pictures immediately without waiting for the photographer or developping.  Plus, digital cameras come with more features to help focus and stabilize the pictures than the traditional disposable cameras, and people are less likely to let kids run wild with their pricey digital cameras.  Just an alternative, if you like the idea!
