Ask a Question
No photographer. . .what do you think?
We're not having a wedding photographer. It's any easy way to cut out $2,000 dollars or more right there. My questions are:
1) what do you think
2) any suggestions?
3) are you also avoiding a wedding photographer?

Maybe you could try to find a local college student or new photographer who wants to build their portfolio... They will probably be less expensive or even free.

look for photographers who are trying to build up their portfolio's. Often times photographers who are trying to gain experience in a different aspect of photography, or they wish to renew or expand their photography will do work for TFP/TFCD (time for prints/cd) which is free for you.

I am having a professional photographer, but only for a few hours. ($250) Then my aunt who is a amateur photographer will cover the rest. Try craigslist.org for starting photographers. I think you should have some type of photographer because a regular flash camera will not do you justice. Also the idea to ask your local colleges is a good idea.

We are going to have a professional photographer only for the ceremony at the Town Hall and some photo shoots at a park, but for the banquet we will ask our friends and family members to make some as our budget is quite tight.
Nowadays almost every family has a photo camera... so our relatives are friends will be very kind to help us making lots of photos about our Big Day... :-)

This is usually one thing I tell people not to skim on. Pictures will last you a lifetime. Are you going to have anyone take some pictures? Try craigslist and colleges with photography classes. Sometimes people are looking to improve their portfolio or start a new business and will do it for free in exchange to be able to use the photos in their portfolio  or to potential clients. Don't give up...and it doesn't take 2000 to have a photographer. You can get someone way cheaper. Just do some searching.

Thanks for all your comments! We definitely want pictures, and we're going to do the whole give guests disposable camera thing (not very green - I know. . I'm trying to be green) but I think posting on Craigslist is a really good idea! Thanks for all your suggestions.  I definitely want pictures, I just didn't want to spend a fortune.  The ironic part of this is that my uncle is rated the 3rd best wedding photographer in the world; however, he is booked three years in advance and can't even make it to his niece's wedding :(  Oh well.

we searched and searched for a photographer in France , but came across little that we liked. Our main focus is photography and well, no one wants to spend thousands and thousands on something they don't want!

That said, we bought an SLR to take over with us and well, we will make very good use of the new camera I am sure and it cost alot less that the $4000 Euros the photojournalists were charging...

Anyhow, I eventually stumbled across a cool and creative photographer here in Ontario that we are going to use. She is ridiculously reasonable price wise and is worth looking into:

RavenGirl Photography.

Let me know how you make out.

I personally feel that a photgrapher is one of the most important expenses in a wedding....like marta said these pictures will last a lifetime....Like the other girls said try and find someone who is building their portfolio up...that is what we did she was a friend of ours and has done 5 weddings for fun and has never built a portfolio up and she is going to start one with our wedding....

I would definitely have a photographer for at least the wedding ceremony. I know someone who didn't have a photographer, and she regretted it so much when she was trying to remember the little details about her wedding day. Look for a photography student, or a lot of photographers will make you your own package based on the price you are willing to pay.
