Wedding Reception
Heritage style house for ceremony and reception
My FH and I both want a small family oriented event for our wedding. I had been searching for a venue that would fit our modest budget, and also be intimate, and unique.
I wasn't at all excited by the regular wedding venues that I was finding locally, and started talking about the possibility of a heritage house. Eventually my dad suggested we rent out a whole vacation house in Gibsons, on the Sunshine Coast! Once I realized the options that were available, I was more excited about planning than I ever thought I could be! I've found so many possibilities, but this one is, so far, the front runner in my mind. http://www.swallowhillcottage.com/gibsons_swallow_hill_cottage_photo_gallery.html This place has two separate cottages, fits very well with the black and white theme, and has lots of 50's elements inside that go with my dress. If everything goes as planned, we will rent both cottages for the wedding, and also some days added on before and after for prep, and then relaxing. We plan on doing the food ourselves, so having two kitchens to warm everything up will be great(gonna pre-make as much as possible). I don't actually live in Gibsons, so planning might be difficult, but my dad does live there, and we are doing a fairly low-key event. |

The Proposal
Christmas Day surprise!
Graeme and I have been together for over two years, and have known each other for more than 12. I had an instant crush on him when he and my brother became friends when they were in Junior High together. Once I was old enough to understand love, I knew I was in love with him, and eventually realized that he was the only one that I ever wanted to love again!
I have two kids from a previous relationship, and he treats them as if they were his own. They love him, and we have been living as a big happy family for the past year. So, of course marriage had come up in conversation over time, and we both knew we wanted to be with each other. I had to try really hard to not imagine when or where he might pop the question. I am a very impatient person, so waiting and wondering was killing me! Somehow on Christmas day, I stopped thinking about it. Graeme, the kids, my dad, and I all opened our presents at our house, and then we headed over to his mom's place to do some more presents and then make dinner. I was suspicious while opening at our house, but once we left for Graeme's mom's I had forgotten about the possibility of a proposal. The kids opened all their presents, we exchanged ours with everyone else, everyone was starting to clean up, when Graeme told me to wait a minute because he had another present in the other room. He came back with a box in his hands, handed it to me, and as I opened it, he got down on one knee. That box was empty, but he was now holding a wooden ring box. I suddenly realized that EVERYONE was staring at me, except our 3 year old daughter that was playing with her Tinkerbell toy right between us! Graeme started reciting a poem that he wrote, and I could barely comprehend what he was saying to me. Here's what he said: When first we met, who would have known That twelve years later, we'd share a home A family and so much more, than what we had way back before Now that there is, a you and me There is a question, I must ask of thee Brienne Leigh ********, will you marry me? (*last name removed) By the end of that, I was just smiling like an idiot, and then started crying. I buried my face in my hands, before answering him, realized I hadn't answered yet, so I lifted my face long enough to nod and smile. After that comes the obvious kissing, hugging, and applause from all the family that was watching. It was an amazing day, and I am so happy to be marrying the man that I've been in love with for so long. |

Wedding Dress
Vintage 50's Wedding Dress
This is my dress, I bought it on ebay, and am basically using it as the inspiration for the rest of the wedding.
It's tea-length, and I plan on buying a black or white crinoline for underneath, as it didn't come with the one that was used in this photo. |
