Make Up and Hair

Oh, ladies I am starting to get discouraged. The makeup artists/hair dressers I have began researching are SO expensive. I was thinking $150 or so, but some of the ones I am getting quotes from are saying $125 for makeup, $200 for hair. Really, do brides pay this much. I am also seeing I can book for the day, but the price range is 1,200- 2K. I am not going to have that kind of money just to splurge especially since my finace and I have paid for our entire wedding ourselves. What to do.....Are you ladies really paying this kind of MOOLAH, and if not do any Chicago Brides suggest any stylists for WBC brides on a budget.

Ohh honey!!! Im having this same issue..Ive done 2 trials already--one free, the other NOT..The first one I went with did a pretty good job, then 2nd one NOT so much!! I looked drag queenish. Im also trying to stay in budget, and go no more than 120 for myself and 65 for the girls..Its been hard, but I think Ive narrowed it down to 2, and will hopefully find THEE one! Good luck!!

As far as my hair--I got lucky and have a friend of the family who does hair in NY for models, and is coming down to do mines--FREE OF CHARGE--ME LIKEY!!!

I had the same problem....I ended up booking may nake-up artist for $150 & not really sure how much the hair will be...i guessing my hair dresser will charge about $100.00 or so??  So basically i will be paying for hair and make-up, anywhere between $250-300. Ouch!
* p.s. i did try a cheaper make-up lady....she did a trial and my make-up was off within 5hours....so, that's why i went for the more expensive girl.  She is double the price, however after her trial, my make-up lasted from 11am until after 2am....without a smudge.

That's crazy expensive for an all day person. The makeup price where I live is somewhat pricey but it's worth it. Fortunately, my sister is a hair dresser and will be doing my hair. I still need to pay for a makeup artist though. Hopefully the chicago ladies in here can suggest a stylist within your budget. Good luck!

So far all the aestheticians around here are charging about $50 for wedding day make-up - and I thought THAT was a lot.

Do they give you some of the products they use on you? That might help explain the costliness?

it does get kind of pricey, i'm not much help either since my SIL is calling me "her black barbie doll" and plans to try out all of her make up techniques on me so its free minus any products i need to buy. (i dont wear makeup...at all!) but before she offered, ppl were telling to go to the makeup counter at the mall (MAC, Sephora, etc..have the make up girl do your makeup and then ask how much she would charge you the day of ..i guess it can't hurt to ask!

Are there any hair/beauty schools in your area?  Most of the time the students are already really good but are in school to attain their license.  

In Atlanta I went to the Paul Mitchell Hair School and thankfully found someone that only charged me $100 for both hair and makeup.  She was at the house on time the morning of the wedding and did a fantastic job!

Agree with peachybride09 in checking out local beauty schools and even craigslist, etc.

ugh, ive contacted a couple beauty schools in the past hour or so and they said the students cannot work outside of the school. im waiting for the rest of the quotes today and then will start looking on craigslist.

One of my BMs is a hair dresser so I got that covered however with makeup my daughter and I will be doing a free trial at Sephoria and she will video tape the process..I a DIY my own make up..

You may want to ask the girls who work at the MAC/Benfit or even sephora makeup counter if they do side jobs..most do and will do it cheap. Chicago is expensive I feel ya there..my venue price is killing me, our sales tax in cook county is sooo darn high too!!!

unpredictablebride,  im in will co. so am able to avoid the cook co. sales tax. a woman has been calling me, her prices are a little steap, but i am sure the girls will all have their hair done, and can just do their own makeup. i have to look out for ME, its my day and i should look the BEST i cannot pay for everyone so if they want it done they have to pay the higher prices, and if they dont im not gonna be mad.  i guess she isnt absolutely terrible she will be driving from chicago to the suburbs.

Sorry calling did not work for you.  The school can not be liable for any work done outside of the school training hours so that's why they have to tell you no.  Just make an appointment but do not say it is for your wedding day hair trail.  Have your picture sample and ask the stylist to make your hair look exactly like the picture.  It should only cost about $25.  You can speak directly to the student while you are there.  Most students already do hair outside of school for extra income.

Another thought...do you have an Ulta in your area?  Maybe you could check out there hair and makeup stylist.  They usually do really good.

My hair is 50.00, make up is 30 my bridesmaids are 35 for hair and 20 for make up.. This is a day spa so not a cheap place either. But then again I live in a completely different state too.. I live in Wisconsin near duluth mn.. my god I wouldnt pay that much.. keep checking..

Those prices are crazy!  I feel very lucky.  One of my bff's is a make-up artist at a very swanky hotel in Vegas.  He has offered to do my makeup for free the day of the wedding. My makeup is being done for free by Clinique at a local department store for the day of our party.  They will do the brides makeup for free & charge $25 for bridesmaids.  

For hair, I still have to find a stylist in the Black Hills.  When we have our party at home, my aunt is a stylist & she will be doing my hair at no charge.
