I really like the idea of having lil individual cakes for all the guests, but since we are having close to 150 people that may be a lil hard and a lil expensive to do. I do also like these other cake ideas, of course they would be done in the colors of green and pink.

Your cake choices are beautiful & look delicious!  Cupcake weddingcakes can be made to look very elegant if you're looking to save funds.  You can have individual flowers or whatever you want placed on them like pictured here.  Either way you go, I like those mini cakes alot!  The thing about the indiviual or cupcakes it that it's so easy to serve.  No concerns about portion sizes or someone to cut the cake.  Good luck with everything & congrats on your very sweet engagement!

We are doing cupcakes, which we've found to be more cost effective and as Sonya said, it eliminates having to have someone cut the cake, etc, etc. We're going to rent a cake stand, which will be our biggest cost for the cake--$40 dollars. Then I have a friend making the cupcakes and my MOH, bridesmaid and I will be doing test runs to figure out which fillings we like best. We're getting some really cute cupcake wrappers from online and we're decorating the tops different for different flavors. Good luck on whatever you decide!

We decided to not have a cake. However, decided to go with cupcakes.

I purchased online three cupcake stands for cheaper than they wanted to rent.  I purchased on six tier and two five tier stands.

The six-tier stand will have the top be a 6” round cake French vanilla cake with ivory butter cream icing and ivory scrollwork on the sides. We will use this for the cutting of the cake.

Our cake topper is a monogram M for the top.  The cupcakes on this six-tier stand will be golden rum flavour with vanilla butter cream ivory icing with chocolate gum paste pick with initial “M” in ivory.

One of the five tier stands will hold chocolate raspberry with chocolate butter cream icing cupcakes with Ivory gum paste with initial “B” in brown

The other five tiered stand with have cupcakes citrus with Celadon green butter cream icing. Chocolate gum paste with initial in ivory “S”

Will post pictures once we have our wedding in August

I understand the cost issue completely. I lucked out and found a girl to make my cake for dirt cheap, but we have over 250 guests... I so don't want a cake that large, it's gross. I asked her what the alternate solution would be. She said to buy a reagualr sized cake to serve 75-100 people and have sheet cake behind the scenes. no one will know the difference if the cakes are all the same flavor and color. It might be something to ask your bakery.

i'm only having 30 people at my destination wedding, but still want a classic 3-4 tier Sylvia Weinstock cake so don't laugh but i also want cute little cupcakes on the table, so i am having two phony layers made:) the top will be real and the bottom will be real and price reasonable so i am getting a $1500 cake for a quater of the price check it out with your baker not everyone eats the cake anyway & if they don't probably not the whole piece!
