I went with square boxes, but it depends what your plans are. i found square boxes were easier to cover in paper or ribbon if thats your plan.  The only downside i found to round boxes was "some" cards are abnormally large, and because of the rounded corners of the box they may not fit at all... at least a square box wouldn't limit you to space.

I agree - just make it your own - Michaels is great! i bought tons of cute accessories. the only thing is its pricey...Walmart is great for crafty stuff.

I used acrylic paint that cost .39 cents a tube by applewood. The box is just the heavy MD cardboard. It's nothing too fancy! I used the same paint for the letters, which are wooden and were only .99 cents each and the ribbon was $3.99 (it matches the wedding favors and the ribbon going on the chairs that are being reserved... any other questions? ask anytime :)

about the petticoat....
I say do it. As long as you stand over the washer and continuosly pull and untangle your petticoat it will dye evenly. Mine was uneven in one spot where it kept curling up so I pulled it up and dunked it under and held it for about 5 minutes then just let the washer agitate the rest and it came out fine. I highly reccomend the liquid RIT Dye (you can get it at walgreens/joanns/craftsplus). It was super easy to use.
If you want I can email you step by step with what I did and you are more than welcome to ask questions.
I was so scared too but I said hey it was only $50 if I ruin it, it's my fault not someone else's so I can't get mad.

I agree that the square box will be easier to cover and probably fit the cards better. I just got some wrapping paper and covered the box and lid and then wrapped it in a gold ribbon with a huge bow on top. It looked great and was very easy to do.

I went to ROSS' (if you have one near by or try TJ MAXX or MARSHALLS) and got a nested box (its the hard durable boxes that usually have a printed design on it). It was cream with pink and green and had a pretty rose on it. It was basically a REEEEALLY large hat box. I cut a slit in the top large enough for cards and put a little velco on the undersides so that it would be secure enough, but that I could break into it later. It was $7.99. Not bad for pretty box.
