FH turns Engineer pt2
FH finally finished the photo booth project he was working on! A few posts ago he started it to have some fun activities and favors at our wedding and luckily he finished it just in time for our friends' wedding at the end of May. It turned out really nice too. Plus the best part was the prints included two 5"X2" strips and one copy was for the guest and the others went into a guestbook for people to sign and write funny comments in.

Plus he plans on renting it out for special occasions in our area so he can pay for our honeymoon. So if you ever need a photo booth for cheap in Champaign, IL hit me up! :-)

I'm marrying a genius! So proud of my man.

Something borrowed
Borrowing ideas from Royal wedding
After reviewing all of my DVR'd Royal Wedding footage, and gawking at all the fascinators, I went on theknot.com and saw a "steal-worthy ideas" from the wedding.

At first, I was hesitant. Of course I don't have the budget or the glamour that the royal family and the English social scene has. But I thought, "what the heck," and took a peak anyway.

After the slides about the "all white flowers" and the "dresses with sleeves" I began to get a little underwhelmed. Then, lo and behold... something I could actually use; the beautiful sapphire engagement ring!

Throughout all the wedding planning, I had completely forgot about the custom of, "Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue." But thanks to Will and Kate, I had an idea to use a sapphire ring for my something blue.

Luckily for me, my sapphire ring is more than just a piece of jewelry. For our 3 year anniversary (our first anniversary since moving in together) FH got me a cushion-cut sapphire ring with filigree detail. I felt like a princess after he gave me this ring and now I get to act like the Duchess of Cambridge and wear a sapphire ring on my wedding day.

Thanks Kate!

Wedding Music And Songs
First Dance Song Chosen
I never heard of my FH's favorite band until I met him. We have different tastes in music ( I like top 40, he's more of a lesser known bands making soft rock). So when I heard Anberlin's Inevitable, I was surprised and touched that he was so sensitive.

So last weekend, as a tribute to his favorite band, I asked if our first song could be Inevitable.

Here's the song on Youtube, if you want to listen to it. It always makes me think of him and it makes my heart melt.

Need Ideas to Honor a Loved One
Hey WBC brides. I haven't been blogging lately because of some unfortunate incidents.

My grandfather died last Monday and I flew from Illinois to Hawaii so I could say goodbye and attend the funeral. It made me so sad to know that I wasn't there for his last days, but I'm happy I got there in time to be there for his last moments with us.

My grandfather was a great man and a huge influence on the way my generation grew up. He was there everyday to pick us up from school, to take us to ever soccer game and practice and he and my grandmother practically raised my brother, my cousins and I.

I wanted to find some way to honor him and all of my family members that are no longer with us. Any ideas? I could use all the help I can get. Thank you.

Wedding Cake
1,001 cranes
Since it's Japanese tradition that the bride fold 1001 origami cranes before the wedding, I thought I would use them in the wedding decor.

I found a few cakes that were decorated with the folded cranes and I thought it was adorable. So I think I'm gonna go with this idea. :-D

Engagement Pictures
Today is my birthday and FH and I got a wonderful gift from my future sister-in-law.

FH's birthday is a few weeks after mine, so his sister decided to give our collective birthday gift early. She offered to pay for our engagement pictures. I was so touched. I don't have any sisters of my own, so when she gave us that gift I almost cried.

I can't wait to find photographers and outfits for the engagement pictures!

Bridesmaids
Help! Need Ideas for Fun Accents
My wedding colors changed drastically after I found my wedding gown. Originally I was going to go with Purple and Yellow, but my dress turns out to be Ivory, Black, Champagne and a touch of Orange. What a departure that was!

I went from tropical and fun and did a 180 to land on classic and elegant. My bridesmaids are wonderful girls with bold personality and I wanted them to be in elegant simple dresses but with bold and fun accents to bring out their personalities, but I'm not sure how to do that.

I wanted each of them to have their own personal style. My girls are pretty different in shape, so I think I should let them choose their own style in a short black dress and put a champagne-colored sash around their waist for contrast. I think they should be able to play with their accessories, but I need ideas.

Should I let them go crazy with the shoes and jewelry, or are there more things to play with than that? HELP!

Wedding Reception
All-Inclusive Savior
I took a trip to home (Hawaii) from Illinois to get a jump start on wedding planning. Not only did I get my dress but we picked a venue for the ceremony and reception.

I didn't know how many places in Honolulu would be able to offer what we wanted, but I was determined to find something. FH and I wanted to get married outside and have an indoor reception. My mother suggested that we have the ceremony and reception at the same place to make things easier, BRILLIANT!

I was very excited about getting married in a garden because, although I am born and raised in Hawaii, I am by no means a beach person. So having the ceremony on the beach seemed unauthentic and a little cliche for my personality.

Instead of the beach, we found a beautiful golf club that had a gorgeous waterfall and river for the background setting for the ceremony and a gorgeous ballroom that has two walls made of floor to ceiling windows.

The best part is that everything is included! I had no idea such things existed. The ceremony, reception, food, booze, flowers, officiant, tablecloths, napkins, chairs, cake and even ice sculpture are all in the reasonably priced package. This saved my wedding planning mindset and I don't have to go insane looking for all these little things a la carte.

What can I say, Hawaii is beautiful and I'm so happy we're getting married where I grew up.

Wedding Dress
from beachy and flowy to Japanese accents
A few posts ago I bought A beachy chiffon gown from David's Bridal for the amazing price of $100 dollars. But after flying back to Hawaii for some preliminary wedding planning, my family announced that they wanted me to try a dress on by a local designer, Anne Namba.

Anne Namba creates custom bridal and evening wear in modern western silhouettes but uses tradition Japanese fabrics. I had a Sex and the City movie moment where the designer gown kicked my other dresses butt. The Anne Namba dress is gorgeous and so luxurious and I can't believe it's real.

So now the wedding plans have to take a turn from small and casual to elegant with the Japanese twist.

FH turns Engineer
My FH is the closest to a genius that I've ever known. He's a PhD candidate in the Nuclear Physics department at U of I. He decided to try his hand at engineering and build a photo booth for our wedding reception. To him, it's more than just a way to give out favors, it's a matter of pride and accomplishment (and budget).

I never realized how expensive photo booth rentals are. Some cost more than $2000 for the whole night! According to FH, all he needs is a photo printer, a laptop with a webcam, a few metal rods and drapes.

Good luck baby!
