DIY Wedding
Boutonnieres
![]() So my DIY posts should be more frequent now, seeing as I am cutting it really freaking close, should not have procrastinated. But any-who, these are the guys boutonnieres. I bought the old skeleton keys many months ago and thought I would just wrap them in ribbon around the center and that would be that, but then I liked the idea of the wildflower look, its cute but still kinda manly and totally fits the rustic theme. The scrabble piece was a very last minute addition that I thought was adorable, and a easy way to personalize them with the guys initials. It wasn't too expensive, all the skeleton keys were around $20 (I have extras, I bought multiple lots and picked the ones I liked the best to use for these, the rest I will use elsewhere) All the bunches of dried wildflower/pods/fuzzy things were $15 total and I have a ton left to use in bouquets, and the scrabble pieces came from a scrabble game I got for $1.50 at a thrift store. It was so easy to put them together and took maybe an hour tops and that was while I was doing laundry also. I love them, they turned out better than I thought they would considering I have never done any sort of floral arranging of any kind. |

Wedding Budget
A Seriously DIY Wedding
![]() So I am under six months away from the big day and I have a reception venue and a photographer booked, and my dress has been purchased. That's it. Seems like I have a lot left to get tackled right? Well yes and no. Since I first started planning things we have had a slight change in income, the thing is FH works in sales and he has an hourly wage and he also gets commission on what he sells, which has always worked out great, up until now (when we really need the money). His paychecks have been quite a bit smaller than they used to be, we can pay bills and have money for other important things, but not much extra. So our wedding budget is now almost non existent. That's where DIY comes in, our original budget was $4,000 which to most is like the cost of their dress but to me it was plenty to plan a wedding, I have a way of making a little money go far so now I get to make even less work as good as possible. So here is our breakdown of things: Ceremony Venue: Will explain Reception venue: Booked Photographer: Booked Videographer: Last priority Caterer: DIY Cake/Cupcakes: DIY Floral: DIY Decorations: DIY PhotoBooth: DIY DJ: Will explain Okay so as you can see I will be DIYing quite a bit of this wedding, and I am so okay with that. Our ceremony venue COULD be at our reception venue, but it would be an outside ceremony and with a march wedding that could be a disaster, so we are looking into churches, but if all else really does fail we can do it at the reception venue and if it rains (or snows) or is just really cold we could do it inside the reception area (last resort). My family will be making food (mainly my grandma) then me and family and friends will be making the cupcakes and freezing them about a month before and the day before we will get them out and frost them all. As far as floral goes I am using fake flowers and my aunt will be making the bouquets since she worked many years at a florists and we aren't doing floral centerpieces. All decorations were always going to be DIY so no big surprise there. And recently I realized we can do a photo-booth for around $100 if we use downloadable software since we already have all the other stuff we would need for it. Also we want to hire a DJ but if we cant we will use another one of our computers and DJ it ourselves. And lastly I would LOVE a videographer but the only way I will get one is if when all is said and done we have some extra money then I can hire one. So this wedding is way more DIY than I ever planned but I am so ready to tackle it all, it will make the whole day that much more satisfying (and probably stressful). How DIY is your wedding? Do you have a lot more on your plate than you expected to when you started planning? |

The Countdown
6 Months - I'm still alive
![]() Wow holy crap, 6 months left, the halfway mark, 50% complete (I wish). Is it weird that saying six months isn't near as scary as saying 181 days, geez WBC you know how to make me panic (but I think its really 182, leap year I do believe). The past six months have gone by so quick that I'm terrified of how quickly the next 6 will go, every time I think about it I get butterflies in my stomach, people aren't lying when they say it goes quick. I feel so out of the loop and so ashamed that I am rarely on here anymore, and when I do get on here to check up I don't always have time to comment. I miss it but I have been really cracking down on the wedding projects. I have SO many different projects going on I cant even think of them all off the top of my head, my problem is that I have such a short attention span so I have a steady rotation of things to do, when I get bored with one I work on another, and then when I get tired of that one I go to yet another project. But at least I know I will have all the projects done I wanted to do, since I have already started on most of them. I just need to get some completed and post some pics up for you gals. On another note, I will be sending out my Save-The-Dates here soon, then I will show them to you guys, I'm really excited because I kind of adore them. So I just figured I would at least make my monthly post on here and let everyone know I'm still around. ? |

The Countdown
7 Months
![]() So this is my 7 and 8 month update I guess, my 8 month mark fell on one of the days WBC was down so no update then. It feels so crazy that I'm almost half-way there, man it has gone SO quick. I'm getting so excited and nervous and oh so anxious. Some sucky things have been happening this month though, first thing being I had a freaking kidney stone! If that wasn't bad enough it's the first (and hopefully only) one I have ever had and since it is a pain I wouldn't wish on anyone (seriously worse than child birth, I kept telling everyone I would rather be having a baby) well I was at work and I work 2nd shift and all alone at that, so I had to call FH and he rushed me to the hospital because we had no clue what was going on. But the kicker is I HAVE NO INSURANCE, oh the joy of receiving an ER bill for almost 6 THOUSAND DOLLARS (more than my entire wedding budget) plus I'm getting a bunch of bills for $200-$300 dollars from other places like labs and crap, so I'm rounding almost 7 thousand dollars in medical bills now, so frustrating. Of course it had to happen to me, the only one of us with no insurance. And the second thing that I'm pretty much over now is that there is someone else in my family having a wedding on the same day as me, but FH helped me see the bright-side: the close family I truly care about will come to mine, I have no doubt about that (it's like a 2nd or 3rd cousin who is also getting married that day). And everyone else who misses it well to bad for them and yay for all of the friends we get to invite now instead! And just a little DIY side-note, I have started on some string balls and am really excited about it. I have made 6 to start with to make sure the yarn works and that I used the right stiffener to water ratio. I will definitely be updating on whether it is a success or an epic fail once they dry, hoping its a success though since I will have to make a lot of these since they will be used instead of paper lanterns. ![]() |

DIY Wedding
Crepe Flowers
![]() So another bride on here inspired me to try crepe flowers, wish I could remember who so I could give them credit. I had tried every kind of paper flower I think and none had the result I was wanting, but crepe flowers just seemed to difficult and time consuming. I was surprised that they were quicker and easier than all the other ways I had tried with AMAZING results (okay so the first few flowers resulted in me crumpling up my attempt and throwing it away, but once you get the technique down its smooth sailing). So I do believe these are the flowers I will be making for decorations, and they are pretty darn cheap since I just use crepe streamer and a roll of that is only like 80 cents. On another note that little glass jar I have them in, they are my best bargain yet I do believe. They are only about 3-4 inches tall but so cute and I got over 130 of them for around $15 from someone on craigslist, yay. |

DIY Wedding
Ring Bearer
![]() So I finally got around to looking for a book to use as a ring bearer book, me and the FH are kinda nerds so I knew he would like this one and I thought the design was neat looking. It cost me a whole $.60 for the book, I already had the Modge Podge, Ribbon, and Exacto Knife. Pretty good price compared to a ring bearer pillow. Now I just need to figure out what I will do to decorate the outside of it without covering up the design, and also I think I will line the little carved out area with fabric or make a tiny little pillow to put in there and tie the rings to. It was also REALLY easy to carve it out, took like an hour tops. Im happy with it. |

It's Back

The Countdown
9 Months to Go
![]() Wow its actually kind of weird to think its been 3 months since I started planning, it sure doesn't seem that long and I feel like one year isn't long enough. I still have yet to get a lot of my big things booked, I will be going to a bridal show next month, pretty close to the 8 Month mark and I'm not sure if that would be too late to start booking things like a DJ. I just want to wait because I don't want to make a decision and regret it later and I know bridal shows will have many vendors and possibly some good deals. Anyone here book things later without problems? But at least I have purchased decorations and some supplies for DIY projects, now I just need to get started on said projects. And next on my list is to order and send out my Save The Dates if I can ever find a cute one that I like. |

Cake Topper
Finally purchased one, yay!
![]() So I finally got our cake topper, it was made for us by a wonderful lady on Etsy. There was a wide variety of animals to choose from but we ended up having her make a Wolf and Unicorn, they are just so fitting in that super corny kind of way. I just couldn't see us with a typical wedding cake topper so when I stumbled upon these I knew I had to have one. Anyone who knows us would say its very fitting of our personalities. As much as I want my wedding to be super pretty, girly, and fancy I know I have to have some fun things thrown in or it just wouldn't be us. Oh and there is a picture of my ring thrown in the mix as well, I realized I have never posted a photo of it so I figured since I have the camera out and everything I might as well snap a quick photo even if it isn't the best since the daylight was fading and there wasn't much sparkle happening. |

Engagement
Got my photos back!
![]() I love them! I would love them even more if I weren't so fat but oh well I will deal with it. I adore my photographer, she is so sweet and awesome, now I just need to put the deposit down to book her for the wedding. The day was fun but hot as all get out, but at least it didn't rain. Next on my list: Order Save The Dates. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And the story behind the next one is thats a picture of our "oldest daughter" who we always planned on having in our wedding, but she passed away a few days before christmas last year and since she cant be here for all this we at least had to have her in spirit (and photo). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
