DIY Catering
Yes, We're crazy enough to cater our own wedding!
Why Would We Do Such a Thing?
Perhaps our most daring move is the decision to cater our own wedding. The reception can easily become the most expensive part of wedding day. After talking with several caterers we found providing our own food and beverages will be in our best interest financially.

The Plan:
Our wedding includes a guest list of 50. Because it is our responsibility to feed our guests, we decided on a brunch reception beginning at 11:00am. We figure brunch will be the best way to cut food costs.

Who Will Serve our Guests?
The brunch will be set up buffet style with three tables: food, drink, alcoholic drink.
We will have a server/bartending standing behind the tables to make sure everyone can get their own food and he will pour their drinks. When it comes time for the champaign toast, he will walk to each table and make sure everyone has a full glass.

The Menu (to be decided):
We know we're going to get sandwiches from Sam's Club or a grocery store and place them on pretty trays, we're going to have hot tea for every table (tea party theme, kind of), we'll have trays with fruit, vegetables, salad, and cheese/crackers, wine, beer, and an assortment of non-alcoholic beverages.

Expect many more posts from me on this topic!

You can DEFINITELY pull this off!  I am no caterer, but I have prepared & set up food for groups of 100-150 for some of the conferences at my church.  Continue to be organized over this, & have a visual (even if it's in your head) of exactly how you want things placed.  Fruit displays can be SOOO beautiful.  My bit of advice is to be consistent with the platters/trays, etc.  Try not to mix match...it will look unprofessional.  Do you have a group of people helping you guys out?

My fiance' has decided that we are going to do our own food too.  My party is for 250 guest but we are not going to do EVERYTHING. We will cook the meats and side dishes but will probably order the fruit trays. Wish us luck!

I have my DOC and parents helping me, but that's about it. I'm not too worried. I'm actually thinking of buying the serving dishes from Ikea. They're pretty inexpensive!

We thought about doing our own food but I think I will already be so pulled that I won't be able to pull that off as well so we are probley going to have it catered. Not positive though lol.

We're doing our own food too. For 50 guests it shouldn't be to bad. I'm fortunate enough that my mother was a cook and my brother is a chef and they have offered to do the cooking. Where does one go about finding a bartender/server though?

Incredible!

Man! I always over do it with mt efforts to make, do, create everything myself when we host events, parties, get togethers, but NEVER would I attempt a wedding reception! Far too much for me!

I have some really yummy ideas though...if you are interested.
