He took me out onto his parents' porch, which kind of looks down the valley. The sun was just starting to go down and the weather was beautiful. His mother told us through the window that dinner was ready, but he didn't make any move to go in. Then he put his arms around me and said "I'm not very good at being romantic, and this may not be very romantic, but I have something to give you." Then he pulled out the ring and asked me to marry him. I said "YES!" The sweet part is that the proposal was a play on the way his Dad proposed to his Mom on his parent's front steps.
