How to set the mood with lighting...without breaking the bank!
I'm a sucker for lighting. It adds such a beautiful element to events. I would love to hire someone to take care of this for me, but as most of us know...there are other things to drop $2,000 on! Also, my reception isn't in the typical ballroom...so expensive lighting would be lost in my dinner space.

I don't want to take away from flowers...I want a lot of flowers. At first I was going to do a small flower arrangement on each table (35 tables) with 4-6 votive candles on each table. But is that enough candle light. I want it to look romatic.

I'm also torn between some of the photos I found. Should I just go buck wild on the candles and forget the flower arrangements...or slap in some rose petals and call it good.

Any suggestions?

You can buy little twinkle lights to decorate around the head table. You can also get these really cool water activated crystals to put in your vases:
http://apersonaltouch.weddingstar.com/6003+Water+Activated+Diamond+Light_keyword:water;
They're 7.98 each, but this link is a reseller of wedding star products, and you get a 20% discount on all products when you checkout.

I would still have little centerpieces in the centre as the focus point and then have lots of tea light candles all around it. The light will flicker off the glass. One of my friends recently got married, and she had little square class vases with coffee beans in the bottom and hydrangeas in the vase...cheap and beautiful! And then she had 5 little glass holders with tea lights in them, it looked amazing. $2,000 is crazy just for lighting, that money would be much better spent on other things, and there are so many cool things you can do on your own that are cheap. Check out ebay too and see whats available. Best of luck!

I love the floating candles with the flowers in the water. That looks great. I would do that and then have smaller votives around them. I don't know about cost...but that would both incorporate your flowers and candles and look great..at least I think :)  I personally think candles are more romantic (especially if you are having an evening wedding) and just add more to the room than flowers alone.

Love the first picture. Very pretty. I am in the same situation as you with lighting. I am doing candles and flowers. I am also using floralytes in different areas, they look really neat at night.
