Ask a Question
Clergy performing Marriage in another country?

Brian's Uncle Bob is a pastor and is a super awesome guy. We called him over thanksgiving weekend and asked him if he'd perform our ceremony and he said yes. We are so excited to have a member of the family, someone we trust and loves us, perform our marriage.

Problem - He is based out of Canada and we are here in the US. I've tried to look up what we have to go through so he can perform a ceremony legally in Ohio, but I can't find anything!

I know we can just go sign the marriage license before at the JOP, but we really don't want to do that.

Anyone know of any websites or dealt with this problem before????

Your uncle would be only be legally allowed to perform marriages in the province he lives in and is registered in. I believe he has to register in the state of Ohio in order to perform your ceremony:

Check this website:
http://clergyresource.com/ceremony/marrauth.html
(it's a website for clergy members)

"Ohio: You can register through the Office of the Secretary of State - contact the Patriarch of Ohio (contacts page) for guidance."
