Are ya'll having a bridal shower? I don't even know what they are and why people have them! Never knew that people had them. So obviously I've never been to one.... What is the idea? Just like a baby shower? You get gifts from family/friends? Is that so they don't have to bring gifts to the wedding? Or do they do both?
Wedding guests NO gift is required or to be expected.
Open gift...
Look surprised (don't look more surprised from one gift to another)
Hold the gift up and tell everyone what it is...
Specify a use for the item..."oh I always wanted one of these frying pans" "oh look! a frying pan! now Fiance can cook me breakfast every morning" etc etc
Thank person who gave gift...and on to the next.
Don't forget to send thank you cards................................... Thats another story!
The origin of the bridal shower is quite interesting and can be traced back to Holland. It is an old story which states that a Dutch girl fell in love with a miller who was very poor. When she told her father, he forbade their marriage. So the young lady decided to marry the miller and stayed with him, despite his poverty.
As the neighbors heard about the news of them nearly starving, they came with help. They showered gifts and money on the newly married couple. From the money and gifts showered to the couple, they set up a good home and a good life for themselves. Since then, this tradition of bridal showers has been in practice. Though, today the celebrations of bridal shower are grand and all full of gaiety.
Bridal showers were meant to strengthen the ties between the bride and her friends, provide her moral support, and help her prepare for her marriage. Gift giving dates from the 1890's.
