Bridal Shower

Didn't think I was going to have a shower since we had a stag and doe, but it turns out (expectedly) that the stag and doe was mostly his side of the family. My mom said she is willing to throw a small shower for the women on my side, which I thought was really nice. Soo, it's going to happen in January! I have a family thing this weekend, so I will be making up the invites tonight and tomorrow, so that I can hand them out on Saturday at the family get together.

Does anyone have any ideas of what we can do during the time, since I would like to avoid as many cheesy bridal games as possible...maybe if there's some fun ones...I'm in, but not so into the cheesy ones...

Also, I had an idea that I need input on. I was inspired by 'Oprah's favourite things' show, and I'd rather not register somewhere...Instead, I'd like to make up a list of things that we'd like and need, and people can share THEIR favourite things. For example...if we say a mug set - someone could go out and buy their favourite mugs and give that. Or if we say art for the walls - people could give out a piece of their own artwork or something they really feel like you would love. Another example is restaurant - people could buy us a gift card of their favourite restaurant...etc. Iike the idea of giving something YOU yourself love too. I was thinking, along with the invite, instead of 'registered at...." I could print up a small list of things, and then when people RSVP to my mom, she can be the registry type - letting people know if the mug set is already purchased, or two pieces of art are already being given, etc...Just thought it was different and kind of cool...BUT is it too difficult to implement?

I like this idea...I agree that it is definitely unique and creative, and it definitely gives your shower guests more flexibility in picking a gift. Implementing it might be a problem though. Do you have a wedding website? Perhaps that would make it easier...if you could have a list on your website and maybe your mom could have access to your website to mark them off as people tell her what they've gotten...? That way they won't have to constantly check with her or she won't have to keep telling everyone what has been purchased...they could just look it up online. Or perhaps she can create a private group on Facebook or some other social website (if she has one), so that the guests can get on there to see what has been purchased. I don't know....that might be more complicated. I do love the idea though!
