Rehearsal Dinner Plans???

Hey ladies...I'm having some difficulties trying to decide what to do for the rehearsal dinner. FH and I have discussed trying to have something very low-key and informal since the wedding will be at a country club. We were leaning towards having a cookout at one of our friend's home who has a large backyard. This way everyone could mingle and start meeting each other before the wedding.

The issue is...both sides of our families are traveling for the wedding. I know the dinner should be mainly for the bridal party and immediate family...but when almost EVERYONE is traveling, its difficult to decide who should come and not end up with half the wedding guests being there (especially when we're paying for this as well). Our other idea was to just go and make reservations at a restaurant, but our wedding is happening during the college graduation weekend (2 big schools here...smh) so most places are already booked solid.

What are you guys doing for the rehearsal dinner? Anyone having a similar issue? Any cost-efficient ideas? Thanks ladies!

I feel ya on trying to not have a ton of people...we at 40 and I feel like my mom keeps adding people (though she isn't paying for it).  Anywho, I think the house is the best plan that is what we are doing and we are doing a pasta bar.  It allows people to talk and enjoy each other.  Then since it is on New Year's Eve...we rented out villas on the property that the bridal party will go back to and celebrate with drinks, snacks and a murder mystery party.  Lastly for the out of town guest our parents decided to have a breakfast thing at a restaurant on Sunday after the wedding before we leave for our honeymoon, so we can see all the people who came out to see us.

Something at someone's house is just great. You don't need to spend another $10,000 on food.

Thanks ladies. I definitely think we're leaning towards having it at our friends' place or just using the clubhouse at our complex. Its really nice and since its not one of our family members hosting, I would hate to have that many people at a friends house.

We had the same problem. Our Wedding is about 2 hours away from most of our family and friends. So we are making a whole weekend out of it. We rented a house at the resort where we are getting married and we got a tent from our catering company. We're doing a rehearsal dinner luau for about 40 people. Mom agreed to host though and we are making the food ourselves I think(haven't fully decided yet.) My FH dabbled in the DJing biz for awhile so he has all the equipment to provide entertainment to the guests. We are also doing a brunch the day after.

ya ur best bet for cost efficiant is to do it a house, the clubhouse idea sounds good too...u dont gotta get pricey food, or go all out....my venue comes with a rehearsal dinner as part if our package with food as well, so i lucked out i really did get an awesome deal :)

Our wedding was at a country club back in October also, and we wanted something low key as well.  We had our rehearsal a week before the wedding instead of the night before.  We had about 15 in attendance & just had everyone over to our house where we had it catered by a local caterer.  We just had a nice BBQ dinner and drinks.  Everything was great, and it didn't cost a lot.
