DIY Wedding
Centerpieces

Well to cut cost I....like a lot of other brides have chosen to use candles instead of flowers. I have purchased a few column vases from the dollar store and IKEA. Any ideas on where else I can purchase expensive column vases??? Any brides out there looking to sell their used ones?? I saw a posting on Craigslist but unfortunately they were sold by the time I contacted the seller.

I also under estimated the cost of candles. They aren't as cheap when you are purchasing several of them at once. Is it at all tacky to use a lot more tea lights and votives to save money? What do you think???

I would check out some local craft stores.  Either a Hobby Lobby
( I have never been there---there isn't one in my area--but I know alot of brides talk about) Michaels or Acmoore are good too.  Sometimes they can give you a really good price on stuff.. especially if you buy in bulk.
I went to AcMOORE and got tealight candle holders ( I got 200 of them for $20)  Acmoore sometimes has coupons on ine for like a certain percentage off your total order. When you go to a store ask them if they have more in the back and if they take a % off for buying a certain amount.
Check it out.    I am using one bigger vase in the middle of my tables.. and then there will be a bunch of cheap glass stones and tealight candles in holders and stuff on the table.  Its actually saving me alot of money---besides, you want your reception to look nice, but most likely a couple months later, nobody is even going to remember what it looked like.  Sad with all the work we put into it.. but its true.  GOOD LUCK!!!

I am looking at doing candles as well to save money on the centerpieces.  Although i would avoid the tea lights even though you may save money, they may only burn for an hour or two.  Midway through your reception they could burn out...just a thought.  I saw someone post something about the Dollar Tree having a website, and they found votives 4 for a $1.  Hope this helps.  Good luck.

glad to know I'm not the only one skipping flowers:) I think going with a variety of candles would be a great idea. Since you've already shelled out the money for the vases, why not get candles for the ones you have and then get lots of votives as accents? Since they're smaller, you can have more of them, and that means more lighting. Candless4less is actually having a holiday sale right now on votives-I just got 144 candles AND glass holders for $90 including shipping. They've got a variety of colors and frosted options as well.

Since these are for your reception, be sure if you do go with smaller candles to get VOTIVES and not TEALIGHTS. Votives last 7-10 hours and tealights only last 1-3. You definately don't want all of you candles to whiff out in the middle of the party!
