Ask a Question
What are you doing to represent unity?
I know that it is tradition that a Unity candle is lit to signify two becoming one. I was wondering if anyone was doing something different that the candle. I heard one bride mention something about sand.

We're doing the blended sand ceremony... I have two daughters from a previous relationship. I think it'll be great for them to be apart of our special day instead of just being jr. bridesmaids...

I'm not a fan of the idea of "two become one" because I like to think we will each retain our individuality.  So, I think we're going to do a hand ceremony.  I saw it on ashleyw44's blog.  I searched it online and came up with this wording to use...

“[Jack] and [Jill] join your hands, and with your hands your heart…

These are the hands of your best friend,
Young and strong and full of love for you,
These hands hold yours on your wedding day
As you promise to love each other today, tomorrow, and forever.

These are the hands that will
Work alongside yours as together you build your future.

These are the hands that will
Passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and
With the slightest touch will comfort you like no other.

These are the hands that will
Hold you when fear or grief wracks your mind.

These are the hands that will
Countless times, wipe the tears from your eyes;
Tears of sorrow and tears of joy.

These are the hands that will
Tenderly hold your children, and

These are the hands that will
Help you to hold your family as one.

These are the hands that will
Give you strength when you need it,

And lastly, these are the hands that
Even when wrinkled and aged will still be reaching for yours,
Still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.”

nothing...we want the ceremony to be like 10 minutes ! I rather party and celebrate inside air conditioning than stand outside in the heat longer than i have to

We are doing a sand ceremony I'm pretty sure. I like that the two different colored sands will blend but yet still retain their original color. My FI and I will become one, but still keep our individuality. Plus - its a nice keepsake to display in our house!

As of right now we are not doing the unity candle thing. Takes up way too much time!

We're doing a Hand Ceremony.  I copied it below for you to look at.

These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow and forever.

These are the hands that will work along side yours as together you build your future.

These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch will comfort you like no other.

These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief temporarily comes your way.

These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes, tears of sorrow and tears of joy.

These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children.

These are the hands that will give you support and encouragement to chase down your dreams.

These are the hands that will hold you tight as you struggle through difficult times.

These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it.

These are the hands that will lift your chin and brush your cheek as they raise your face to look into eyes that are filled with overwhelming love for you.

And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.
