Ask a Question
Are you hiring child care at your reception?

Im one of those weddings that has a million and one kids comming haha. At first...i was gonna make some personalized coloring books and hopefully that would keep them entertained but after thinking about it more.... kids can get a little outta hand haha. We currently have a huge hall booked and are using 2/3 for reception and 1/3 as ceremony. After the ceremony that side of the hall will be empty so im considering hiring child care for the dance portion of the night and putting on movies or having coloring and games??? It sounds silly but if the kids are having a good time...so are the adults.

As far as fees go, base it on how many children you think he/she may end up caring for during the day/evening. You should never pay less than $10 even if she has no children to care for. Here's how I would base pay.

0-2 kids $10/hr.
2-5 kids $12/hr.
5-8 kids $15/hr.
8 or more kids $20/hr.

Keep in mind that your wedding should be a joyous occasion for you and your guests. Kids will be kids and they need stimulation! Do yourself a favor and keep them entertained! Best of luck on your upcoming wedding!

We are actually doing this. It's actually no kids allowed, but a total of 8 children between the ages of 7-12 will be attending. Some are part of the wedding party and the others are my little sisters. We have hired a kids coordinator to keep them busy in an adjacent room.  Total for our 4 hours will be $190.00, but she is bringing everything to keep them occupied. I just wanted to take the burden off their parents and mines.

We're sorta-kinda hiring someone.  I have 2 friends in childcare who pretty much volunteered to oversee the kid's area for free.  Although they have volunteered their time, we want to gift them monetarily for their services.  We will also have a couple of teen cousins rotate.

For sure, I will have to do something like this.. Down stairs is reception and bar #2 and upstairs is the Cocktail area and bar 1 plus 15 guestrooms so I'll probally shove them one of those ones or tell my mom that since she was soo nice to have kids then guess where there going
I'm going to have to find a babysitter, which I have one in mind.. my aunts neice watches her 3 kids all the time so I can't see it being a problem :)

We are doing this too. There is an atrium just off of the main reception area that we are renting for the evening. I am putting together activity kits for all of the kids. As well we are setting up a tv and dvd player, board games and other fun stuff.

I think it's a wonderful idea! Kids need to be focused busy to keep them occupied. For the children who are well mannered, they'll do activities there like coloring books, puzzles, etc. But the ones that ADD????Watch out. Short attention span and they are the ones that are usually not that focused as others. They will draw for a minute or two, then they are off doing other things. LOL  A hired person is better. For some reason, some parents come and forget about their little tykes and then it's unforgettable. At ours, we didn't have the hired help. The kids were well mannered but there was always one bad kid running around with the table cameras and using up our camera film on bullcrap...Where was his parents? Enjoying themselves! I had to physically go over to the kid myself and snatch the camera from him 3 x's.  Hired help is a must!

also question: do you think kids will stay in kid area or just want to be with their parents. i am not opposed to kids...and watching them dance is entertainment alone... i dont want to hire someone and then no kids come lol

I was talking about this same subject to several of my guests who are mothers and they all said the same thing...the kids always want to go see their parents if they know they are in the next room, or upstairs, etc...
SO we decided to just set up a "kids" table (see my blog- I just posted on this)

why don`t you just buy a few things for the kids like crayons and drawing books...borrow some lego or megablocks and stuff like that...instead of paying all that money for a babysitter. There will always be someone that shows the kids some interest and if not they still have parents ;) The kids should be their problem ;)
