Ask a Question
transition from ceremony to reception??

I dont know if i will get much replys from this post cuz i had no idea how to word it, im starting my time line and noticing a big time gap...basically my dillema is that our ceremony and reception are at the same location but in different rooms. After the ceremony we are transitioning into the reception but we need time to do so as the chairs are being used for both and we need to move them all over and finish set up. this should take no more than 45 minutes! In the mean time we will do a recieving line and guests can mingle in the outside garden area (weather permitting). After this 45 minute wait......cocktal hour will start and guests can enter into the reception hall and get drinks (open bar during this hour). We cant serve food as its just not in our budget......... im afraid it will be boring and guests will get cranky. What is some ways i can entertain my guests during this transition??? I have no clue cuz it may go really fast or may drag on and make guests annoyed. HELP.

Maybe you could serve drinks and cocktails outside while guests are waiting to be seated... Or you could have some games set up outside, with cute signs labeling each game.

I think that you'll be surprised how fast 45 mins will go by!!  If you're having a receiving line I'm sure that will take up most of the time.  People will want to have "mini" conversations with you during this time.  When my gf was married 2 years ago, the receiving line took at least a half hour to get through.  I think you'll be fine!
The guests will be talking amongst each other as well, discussing how beautiful the bride is!!

I agree with mzhart, maybe you can have cocktails starting during that time and some games.  I have a similar delima, my ceremony and reception are in the same location and we will use the same chairs, I'm just hoping that I don't run out of time because we only have 4 hours total for both.

45 minutes isn't too long for your guests to wait...and your receiving line will definitely take up most, if not all, of that time. I'm doing a similar thing.

Agree with mzhart, and 45 mins isn't too bad at all. Maybe you can have music playing and some pictures of you guys. Maybe put the guest book out or a photo album of old pics somewhere that they can see it. They can spend their time signing the guestbook and looking at several wonderful pics of you and your hunny. And put some funny ones of the FH there, cuz those are sure to start giggles, and convos and no boredom! :)

Everything that Tashasita said is great :) We're having our cocktail hour occur during the receiving line, too....we're just having fun music play, a few light appetizers (that we're making ourselves), & leaving out the guestbook & memorial pics. I'm sure your guests will just mingle. 45 minutes really won't be that long to have nothing "planned."

I agree wit the all ideas already said. Photos, guest book and receiving line is plenty. Maybe you can have the servers pass out water or something before the cocktail hour?
