Dream Job
Dream Job
Ask a Question
Is anyone else having Career Change / Job Relocation Dilemma's?
So my fiance and I are both have the understanding with his field of work, (Biomedical Engineer) that once he finishes his Thesis and Defense for his Masters, we will need to leave beautiful Orlando.

With that being said, we have discussed me having a career change and potentially even going back to school full time. Well, I stalk websites for my dream job...and one came up, with requirements that I actually qualify for AS IS! Not that I would actually get the job...highly competitive...but that left me with the question, do I apply or do I not apply?

I opted to apply...but what if I actually get it? I CAN'T turn it down...how do you turn down your dream job? However, my salary would be cut in half and we have budgeted right down to the final day before the wedding based on our combined salaries.

Eek! What to do, what to do...

What are all of you doing???

I graduate with my BFA in Theatre Studies next month and ended up having to turn down my dream position as the assistant to the director of education at a major theatrein VT becuase my fiance who is older than me has been working for a company in Chicago for two years. It was hard but we both decided to compromise, if I find a position I like in DC then we're moving there even though it will mean a pay cut for him. I think you just have to find the job that makes you happy regardless of money. Trust me lol I'm a children's drama teacher I get paid hardly anything but I think about how lucky I am to have such a wonderful job everyday. Your wedding will be beautiful regardless of the budget.

we had a career change that wasnt by choice, so let me share our experience.

when he proposed, he was working for a home construction and i was going to school full time and working part time.  we were doing pretty well on his salary alone.  then the market started really affecting his job (he wasnt getting his huge bonuses anymore and there were rumors of cutting back on hrs) so i decided that for fall semester, i would go to school part-time and online.  then i would get a full time job just at retail store, just to bring a little extra cash.  it wasnt a whole lot but we didnt need much more.  then about 5 months into engagement, he was laid off and couldnt find a job that paid anything comparable to what he was getting (everyone in the field was in the same situation) so eventually he just had to get ANY job, and started working with me in retail.  it wasnt until feb that he found another job that pays almost the same as he was getting before.  we were hoping i'd be able to go back to school full time, but that doesnt look like it's happening at all, so i found another higher paying job about a month ago.  so we had to completely re-budget everything.  we had to change our ceremony and reception place and didnt find anything until 4 months before the wedding! things have been crazy and i'm way behind on everything. (havent even scheduled the caterer yet! yes, its bad) we refuse to push back the date because the style and price of the wedding wont come before our marriage.  so we're determined to pull this off on our small budget (we're getting very little help from our families because they dont have a lot).  Even if we end up getting married in our backyard and having burgers and brats, its happing on july 19th! lol

i say if its your dream job, go for it, you can always change up the budget and make adjustments.  keep in mind the wedding is one day, you still have the rest of your lives to plan for, and i'd say its ok to at least APPLY and if you get, just another thing to celebrate on your big day :)   but that's just my opinion lol

I live in Orlando and I dont like it that much. I cant wait to move. My fiance is giving me crap about it, but he will listen to his queen! LOL I am finishing up my master to be a mental health counselor. After I am done, I am hoping to move back towards Chicago/Indiana/MIchigan area. I have liveed for over 10 years away from my family because I was in the military and moved around alot. So, I am hoping my man can transfer but its a big pain cause jobs are bad up north... so its pretty much up in the air at this point.
