Wedding Reception
Reception Locations
So, I have been working with Mama DivaStyle for ideas about the wedding location. The groom doesn't care where. He only cares about HOW MUCH.
The locations really reflect the look that we are striving for. Here are the locations. City Hall Rotunda Pros: - Bring your own caterer - My parents married at the City Hall and were together for 47 years - Wedding and Reception in same place - Beautiful! Cons: - My estimates are priced at a plain ol' buffet - carved meat, starches, and house liquors and wine. - Not air conditioned - can only marry in the spring, fall or winter. - You have to bring in EVERYTHING (tables, chairs, linens, an oven (lol), silverware, dishware, glassware). As a result, my rental estimates are ca-razy! - We'll have to pay for labor to "flip" the ceremony location to the reception location. - Um. Paying the caterer for service, gratuity and tips. Seriously? - Parking not included Chase Park Plaza - Empire Room Pros: - Very upscale - good food, good atmosphere, good DRINKS! We are foodies, so that is important to us. We can do surf and turf. - Beautiful! - Wedding and Reception in same place - Bridal suite included in price. - Includes parking and other "sweet perks" - chargers, tasting for four, etc. - The chandelier!!!! Cons: - It is a little pricier ($500), so I will have to make a decision - chiavari chairs or lighting. If the chairs are black, then I will get the lighting. 555 Washington Pros: - Bring your own caterer - Wedding and Reception in same place - A Loft - Blank canvas Cons: - My estimates are priced at a plain ol' buffet - carved meat, starches, and house liquors and wine. - You have to bring in EVERYTHING (tables, chairs, linens, an oven (lol), silverware, dishware, glassware). As a result, my rental estimates are ca-razy! - Um. Paying the caterer for service, gratuity and tips. Seriously? - Again...We'll have to pay to "flip" the wedding/reception site. - Parking not included - May be too big for the size wedding we will have. I know which way I am leaning. It is a matter of us going to the sites and seeing what "moves" us in person. |

My Wedding "Stuff"
I also owe you all pictures. :)
The first picture is a copy of my favor box. I am going to use the blackberry Midori organza ribbon to wrap it. I am not sure what I am going to put inside of the box. I initially thought that I would put local cookies, but I can't see it. I love chocolate, maybe I'll put candy from a local candy shop. Second picture - Envelopment pocketfolds. I don't know. This might have to go on eBay. I initially thought that it would be nice to do with my invitations or save the dates, but I don't really want to work hard. Third picture - the DIY damask candle holders. I used the damask tape for this. I think that it turned out rather cute. Fourth picture - The gown with the ivory sash and a brooch. Right after I snapped the picture, the brooch fell apart. A couple of drops of gorilla glue will get that together. ;) The fifth picture is the invite sample. As you can see I had a couple of issues with the printing. I used my color laser printer and I didn't have a clue how to set up the paper. I should have used the guide that came with it, but oh well. I am going to change the ink color to a purple color. My mother does calligraphy, but her style is too formal for our wedding. I am either going to run the envelopes through the printer or pay someone to address them. The last picture is a picture of the centerpiece urns. I caught a deal with those! I paid around $12 per urn! I plan on filling them with carnations and roses. |

Ceremony
A Vegas Style Wedding
I am kinda pissed. I have been in communication with a venue. I found out that there was a 10% increase on December 1. That's fine. But not only in the costs per person, but the MINIMUM. So, we would have to invite more people to meet their new minimum than the old. I am disappointed, but I believe that it will work out in the end.
Here's a snippet of a conversation with my FI... FI: Hey. What if we got married in Vegas? Me: I would loooooove to get married in Vegas. We would save so much money! Of course, it would have to be at the Wynn or Bellagio. FI: We should look into it. Me: Well, you know that my mother would NOT attend. She doesn't fly. *sigh* FI: We could put her on the bus two weeks earlier and she can meet us there. Me: She also doesn't like mountains. FI: *chuckle* Me (thinking): Maybe we could drug her for the flight. FI: How would we do that? Valium? We were half kidding about drugging my mother. Anyhoo, Vegas is MY CITY! I love everything about it - the lights, the shows(!), the porn peddlers on every block, and the "over-the-top"-ness of EVERYTHING. Besides it is the only city where it is appropriate to wear sequins in the daytime! So, I have been thinking about this. A lot. I know what he is thinking. First, he doesn't want me to spend a lot of time planning. He wants a phat wedding, reception and afterparty. He doesn't want to spend a lot of money. He wants to party. We could do a Vegas wedding/honeymoon for about half the budget AND pay for rooms for our families. Here's what makes Vegas weddings so appealing: 1. You can make the wedding as big or as small as you would like. 2. The bridal salons are opulent and extravagant. 3. The weddings are usually very intimate. 4. You can have a party afterwards! My gears are turning. Why couldn't we recreate that here? In the immortal words of the President Elect. YES, WE CAN!!!! |

Traditions
Old, New, Borrowed, Blue
I am not really one for traditions and such. But I will participate in the Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue tradition.
I think that I have communicated that I am an etsy.com addict. I found a very fabulous Something Old. It is a vintage earring that has been converted to a hairpin. I have ear length, very thin hair. For the past four months, I tried on my fabulous flower and feather headpiece it would SLIDE out. It wouldnt even try to stay in my head for 10 seconds. I teased my hair and created a braid. I attached it to the braid. The flower slid out after 12 seconds. I am not going to let my hair grow because I feel like I lose a bit of something when I have longer hair. I am going to wear either a blunt bob or some sort of vintage inspired hairdo. I think that the hairpin will be very cute and just a little bit of something. More importantly I know that a bobby pin will remain attached. |

Wedding Dress
A Hint Of Color
In the last couple of weeks, I have been thinking about ways to add a little oomph to my bridal attire.
Well, I am officially a "colored shoe Bride". I found a pair of Nine West Jiopa in purple in my big foot size! They were an unbelivable price ($23.00). Plus I LOVE the color! They are about $200 cheaper than the shoes I really wanted (Prada Rose D'orsay). Since there is a recession and all...I decided to get these. ;) My mother will not understand and that is ok. I feel like such a rebel. |

What Does No Bridal Party Look Like?
We aren't having a bridal party. It isn't important to me. I read the stories of brides that have issues with their bridal parties and I would like to save myself the aggravation and just do without.
In terms of showers and such, I am not too worried about it. I don't care about etiquette and such. I'll ask my favorite SIL to throw me a shower. So, what does a wedding with no bridal attendants look like? Well, sort of like this... and this. Trust me...My friends will appreciate it. LOL |

Wedding Flowers
Found A Florist!
It's official. We are not having any attendants. In the immortal words of Forrest Gump - "That's just one less thing to worry about."
Here's what we will do for the flowers: 1 Brides Bouquet 3 Corsages (Mothers and future step daughter) 4 Boutinnieres (groom, father, my brother, and one for my deceased father) 1 Cake Topper (maybe...I might do this myself - simple). There is a local operation $100 Bouquet Company. Basically it is a low-frills operation. You pick your flowers. You pick the colors. You order via email and/or fax. You pick up the flowers. I saw them at a bridal show and they were beautiful. It is an off-shoot of a local well-known florist. The basic all rose or all calla bouquets begin at $100. |

Marriage
Wedding Of My Dreams?
So, we had a pregnancy scare. Let me rephrase that. We thought that I was pregnant. I thought. He hoped and prayed. LOL
That would have made the marriage a little different. I won't say that it was a shotgun, but we would have gotten married before the end of the year. But alas, we weren't that fortunate. He was very disappointed by it. Later on, he asked me if I would have been disappointed to not have the wedding of my dreams. Marrying him IS the wedding of my dreams. I just don't see how anything would have changed. I simply said that we would still have a wedding and a reception with our friends and family AND a honeymoon. To marry him would be cause for celebration. To be blessed with a child is an even bigger celebration. That conversation put everything in perspective. |

Wedding Hair Style
Headpieces
I like birdcage veils, but I am a bigger fan of the "poufs".
![]() source: www.artikal.com Actually, I am quite drawn to the bigger and poufier poufs, but I won't post those for fear that you all will think I am bonkers... As I have mentioned before, I have a Toni Federici headpiece that I fished out of a bin (LOL). I think it needs a little something extra. I am not going to wear it for the ceremony, but I would like to spruce it up a teensy bit and wear it for the reception. I feel like it needs a little more. So, the plan is to buy a yard of french netting and go from there. I have made veils before (they are EASY), so I don't think I will have any trouble glam'ing up the headpiece. I found out that one of the recommended places for French Netting is located in my city. I am going to check them out this week!!! *squeals* |

Lampshade Centerpieces
As I mentioned before, I am going to do very inexpensive centerpieces. When I say very expensive, I mean like $8 per centerpiece.
I really like the idea of the lamp centerpieces. Basically, you take a vase, put a lampshade on it and then put it in the middle of a table. Boom! Centerpieces! I think that I have figured out how to do this. I am going to use the Wine Glass Candle Lampshades as the template. Here are my plans: $2.00 for a vase $2.00 for a floralyte $1.5 for paper or fabric... I am thinking about using damask wrapping paper or the Michael Miller Dandy Damask fabric to create the lampshades. |
