Wedding Cake
Made by a sweet sister...
I'm looking forward to seeing our cake! My sister and I had only met a couple times, but we were reconnected through facebook. I was living in Washington with my fiance' and she lived back home in Maine. I am now in Maine finishing the last part of our wedding planning. I was delighted to have her be part of my life and also to give me such a wonderful wedding gift! I told her I want it to look sort of shabby chic. It doesn't have to be perfect. I actualy would prefer some rough edges. She is going to order flowers (I told her I would love black bacarra roses) to put on it and add green leaves. I also want it on a rustic tree cake stand, on a table with a black linen and maybe some moss, ferns, quartz crystals and candles scattered around it. I found some little birds that I painted black to go on the top. I really wanted crows, but i couldn't find any I liked. I was not into the cheap looking styrofoam crows with dyed black feathers. There are also going to be green leaves on the top with the birdies.

p.s. I haven't posted on here in a while! I am about 60 days away from our wedding date so I am going to start posting details as much as I can. <3

Willow loves the blackberries, but we would need to get rid of the white flowers.
Back of the dress we ordered. Stunning!
Front of dress, simple, elegant, and will showcase her jewelry beautifully.
The contender, Soooooo sweet. we loved the three flowers, and the ruffles on the bottom, but after all the pondering we ordered the other dress.
Back of the dress.
Our dream dress that we had to let go of. :(
Cute, but just a little too much...ruffles...tiers...everything!
Cute, but I've just seen this dress too many times in all different colors. She tried this on in lilac.
A little too basic. She tried this one on too, in ivory.
Cute, but too plain.
Elegant, but there is hardly any satin in our wedding. Mostly organza and chiffon. not a good match.
The back of the satin dress.
The same as the last dress, but with a black sash. You can get several styles and colors of sashes with this dress.
Too many crazy "pick-ups".

Flower Girl Dress!
Ordered, and now waiting!
Since I haven't been on here in a while, I figured I would say hello and I hope planning is going well for everyone! I will be posting here more often since we are very deep in planning mode. Our wedding is a bit non-traditional, but it's not full out gothic. We were planning on having a black flower girl dress, but the dress sold out less than a week before we got to order it. i was so bummed out, that I seriously cried. Finding a dress for our little girl is pretty important, and I was planning on having that dress for a long time. Since then I have moved on and along came another set of dresses. Most of them were black, but were not nearly as cute as the sold out dress. So I searched for a black tulle dress on ebay because the prices are just amazing. I didn't find a black tulle dress, but re-stumbled upon some white tulle dresses with dressed up black sashes. I decided it was best to just make a decision (with the help of my family and friends on facebook, were planning from a long distance!). So last night my swweetie and I ordered a flower girl dress from ebay. I had to set aside my dream of an elegant black flower girl dress, and it worked out great because now her dress will compliment mine perfectly!

The first dress is the one we ordered, the second was the contender, the third dress is the black one that sold out. :( , and the rest are dresses that we were considering, but decided not to get because for one reason or another we just didn't love them.

When we get over to Maine we will start looking for little black shoes, the perfect rustic basket, and we will need to decide on a head wreath or hair fascinator.

DIY Wedding
Our Rustic, Forest Wedding...
Yes, we have a new venue! It's very lovely and has paths that you can wander through. Our ceremony will be held on a rustic little stage in the "Wedding Woods", and the reception will be held in a small field.

We are working on decor. We want to use a lot of candles, and old furniture throughout. We are going for a rustic, romantic , shabby chic, gothic look.

The stage will be lit with jar lanterns hanging at different heights from the top on both sides and in the back. We might also use some jar lanterns on the floor. We are debating on using flowers and willow branches to make it a little more romantic.

The reception is a little harder. We have a plain white tent to dress up for the buffet, and I'm not a white wedding type of bride. We'll have to do some brainstorming.

The reception tables will probably have black lace table linens, and I am using mismatched clear vases collected from thrift stores to hold dark colored garden flowers, and succulents. I have a few other ideas, but nothing set in stone.

For fun we are going to have a DIY photo booth wall, a candy buffet, and an acoustic jam session after dancing and when the sun starts to go down a bit.

Still trying to come up with some more fun stuff. :)

My Garters!
From the GarterLady on Etsy...
I ordered my garter set on Wednesday and I am anxiously waiting for them to arrive. I've been trying to choose the right garter since 2009, and I finally did it. There are so many beautiful garters out there. I think they are such an important wedding keepsake! I love ruffly garters but they seem to take over my scrawny leg, so I went with a more streamlined, but sophisticated set.

If you haven't checked out the GarterLady's etsy shop yet, you must!!!!

I also included a picture of a garter from another etsy seller, woomi. Her designs are so BEAUTIFUL! I had a hard time deciding which one was the perfect garter for me.

Please check out woomi's etsy shop, too!

Wedding Flowers
My bouquet has changed...I'm content now.
I don't know what I was thinking being so obsessed with black magic and black baccara roses. I grew up a full blown redhead, and I have never really liked red! I guess I just tied them to the "gothic" wedding feel and it just stuck for a while. I still LOVE those roses, but I have decided to go back to my favorite colors. Greens and dark purple.

Once I found my gown I just knew I was going to have a black and white wedding, but the accent color was hard to choose.

I loved the inspiration boards that were black and white and green, but I thought they weren't "dark" enough for me.

I also loved black and white with dark purple, but I was having a hard time finding enough purple things that were the right color of purple.

Then I fell into the black and white with red (dark red) thing, but after all the planning I did around that, it just wasn't right.

Now, after planning this thing (with breaks) since September of 2009, I have come back to "myself" and I am doing what my heart tells me. :)...and I LOVE these colors!

Wedding Day Accessories
So many pretty things to choose from!
I'm going crazy trying to choose the "perfect" accessories to go with my gown. Anyone else feel like this?

So right now I am trying to find shoes, a clutch, and a garter set. Of course, I want them all to go together, I want them all to be black, and I want them all to compliment my gown. How do I decide? Seriously, I just can't figure it out.

Here's some things I love the most. What goes with my gown the best?

Anyone have any input, or just feel the same way I do?

The pictures have captions!

Wedding Planner
Planning and working as a family.
Our wedding was supposed to happen in July of 2010. Unfortunately we had to postpone because we are no longer receiving any money from our income tax refund because of my fiance's student loans. After all of the disappointment we are working as a family to make this wedding happen.

My future mother-in-law and I have been talking and we're setting our goal for July of 2013. She has offered to help us. She would be applying for a loan to take care of the bulk of the wedding costs, about $5,000, and we would be paying her back. All of the details like my gown payments, decor, and little details will be taken care of beforehand.

The things we really need help with are things like rentals, food, our cake, flowers, etc. I'm hoping that we can do this because I have been planning this wedding since 2009 and I would like to get it over with...

Don't get me wrong!!! I LOVE planning this wedding, but I can't see myself having to think about it for more than 2 more years! So wish us luck that it all works out! For now I'm off to go do some research, work on my timeline and my budget, and hope and pray that we can do this. :)

Shoes...
Opinions and Ideas appreciated!
Here's the deal...we're having an outdoor ceremony and reception. I attended a wedding in 2009 in heels (short heels even), but I sank into the ground with every step. It was not fun!

I LOVE black shoes, and need black shoes to go with my gown. I love crystals, but I can always add them with a shoe clip or swarovski crystals later on.

The first picture is my foot, which looks tiny and insignificant under my dress. :( The shoes I'm wearing in the picture were just to get the idea of a black shoe with my gown. I DO NOT want patent or fake patent shoes. They are too shiny. I prefer satin.

I've been searching for wedges in black satin. I'm not finding much...you see it.

Picture #2 is a shoe I have been considering for about a year. I read that they are horribly uncomfortable...and I believe it. I'm scared to buy them.

Picture #3 I found today. Kinda plain, but I could add all kinds of crystals (black) or a crystal shoe clip...but still kinda plain. :(

Pictures #4 - 9 Are adorable and sexy and AMAZING, and would be great if I was getting married indoors.

Pictures #10 - 12 Heels stoppers.

My questions for you...

Are the heel stoppers dumb looking?
Would you use them if you were getting married outdoors?
Do you think they would keep me from sinking into the ground?
Should I buy wedges or stilettos?

My final question....

If you could dress my feet in black shoes to go with my gown, what pair would choose that I have posted?...Or do you have other ideas?
