If I was having a black and white wedding I would definitely chose this design for my cake. It's really beautiful! However, I was told by my baker who is one of the top in the city, that you can't do as nice designs like that over butter cream because it comes out all ripply and un smooth. I don't know ... I don't care for fondant either really ... but there seems to be enough buttercream on the inside of a cake that it's a perfect proportion. Plus we found the fondant peeled of very easily like a sheet and wasn't messy at all!
I think it's fine if it doesn't come out just like fondant. I love my baker/cake decorator she's amazing! She does our birthday cakes too! I am so excited to see how it comes out. Both me and FH are artists so we really appreciate art for art. As long as it tastes good. :)
