Ask a Question
Card Box

OK, so yes, I am a little older, and I have to admit that until I started lurking this site - I had never seen a card box before.....ever. Some of the ones I have seen on here are just gorgeous - nicer than a lot of wedding cakes I have seen.

BUT - do I need one??? We are not registered - we need nothing - matter of fact we both need to get rid of a bunch of stuff - so since we are having a christmas time wedding - we are asking our guests to bring an ornament to help us start our first tree.

SO - do I need a card box???

If you KNOW that NOONE will bring a card, then I don't think you need anything. But...some people will likely still bring at least a card (even if you say no gifts...and then some will probably still give gifts too!).  I think if you at least had a basket or birdcage (you can just buy them cheap at Joann's or something) for guests to put them in, in case they bring them, that would be good.

Maybe you could even just make a big basket or something for everything - cards and ornaments?

what if you did a little christmas tree - if it goes with your theme where your guests can put the cards in the branches and the presents underneath. You may need to have someone gather the cards through out the night to prevent any from going missing or you could have a card box that looks like a present to tie in the Christmas idea.

I love the idea of having a tree so people can hang the ornaments on the tree or a gift under the tree.

I am exactly in the same positio as you are. But the more I talk to people and think about the question, the more I think that I need a "place" to put things if they do. I will be very interested to see what the other brides say.......

You may not want anything elaborate, but cardboxes aren't just for cosmetic purposes, they also serve as practical ways of securing and safekeeping monetary gifts, cards etc that your guests bring for you.  I agree with Ksugar526, that you can get something as simple as a small  basket, or a box that looks like a Christmas gift in your wedding colors.  Cut a slit in it, and voila...you have a cardbox.   This could totally be a less than $5 project.  Have an attendant at the table to make sure everything is properly put in the designated holder.  It keeps things from being misplaced or even mishandled, & easy for you & FH to go thru later.
I do love the tree idea.

You know what? I felt the same way...I've seen the birdcage looking one before coming onto WBC. I made one for myself and I'm glad I did. We've been married for 10 years and was celebrating our anniversary/renewals. Mostly everyone new that we didn't need another toaster or iron, so cash was the key.  We had an overwhelming out pour of gift cards and money and all of it was in that box, nicely stacked and surprising. They were placed inside perfectly. Instead of having someone steal one, misplace one, falls to the floor etc., it's classy and plus everyone doesn't need to see how many cards you get in the first place. I feel that it's more personal and private gifts from the ones you love.

You could either have a pretty basket, or just wrap a box in some pretty paper to match your colors, add a bow, and cut a slot in it. It doesn't need to be super fancy, just something to hold any cards that might come in. I have a friend that asked people to bring a christmas ornament to start their first tree, and they had a christmas tree set up where guests could place their ornaments. It was really cute. Good Luck!

Thanks ladies - your ideas and thoughts are very welcomed - I should have said that I am going to have a table set up with a tree for unwrapped ornaments and have the wrapped ornaments underneath - but I really like the idea of a box wrapped as a gift with a slot for cards - thank you!!!!  Now - I am going to go lurk for box ideas - I think I read somewhere that paint applied with a sponge brush works best.
