My wedding day
It's been a long time coming. I started doing this blog when I was really down, but then life took over, and time got away from me, and I never continued. But just in case there are any brides out there who used to follow me, here are a few photos of my big day on May 14th.
We live in Austrlia, but flew back to my home country of England. We got married in a little chocolate box village in the Cotswolds. It was a beautiful day, I couldn't have asked for better. The church was stunning, really huge, stained glass windows, and several hundred years old. I was so nervous (in a good way) that I shook as I walked up the aisle. A few guests said they noticed and thought I was crying. I had been really scared about crying through my vows, as I cry all the time, and my voice always sounds terrible. But I didn't. Instead I laughed my way through Ryan's vows, which he said was really difficult for him to keep a straight face. Apparently my shoulders were shaking from behind. When the vicar announced us husband and wife, the organist played Walzing Matilda, which was great as Ryan is Australian, and lots of his guests had flown over from Australia. We had such a great reception. It was just over the road in this lovely little old English pub/bar/restaurant. It was lit by tea candles and pea lights strung through branches of willow, and looked magical. We started with Pimms (it's an alcoholic drink mixed with lemonade and chopped fruit, cucumber and mint) and sandwiches/cakes (like an English tea party) and had a gorgeous jazz singer. Then we had champagne and canapes (they were delicious) and had speeches and cut the cake (an unusual order I know, but it worked really well as the wedding was late afternoon, so by this time it was already 7pm). Then the DJ started as loads of little bowls of local speciality dishes came out. You could have as many as you wanted, and 3 different dishes came out every hour. We had fish pie, slow cooked lamb, sausages and mash, pea risotto, wild mushroom tortellini, thai chicken curry, prawn cutlets, goats cheese bruschettas and crab and potato cakes, followed by apple crumble, chocolate mouse, berry tartlets and passionfruit topped citrus posset. The food was amazing, it just went on and on, and best of all you could just chat, wander, dance, drink and eat all at the same time. We loved the informality of it. We had chairs and tables set up throughout in little nooks and lining the dance floor, so people could sit down too. No seating plan! Time flew and suddenly it was first dance time. I was so nervous as we couldn't agree on a first dance, and Ryan wanted a funny one, I wanted romantic. With 30 seconds left to go, I caved in, and we ended up with Ryan's choice of "Another Bites the Dust". We hadn't rehersed, but as I know all of Ryan's dance moves, I could anticipate them, and the dance was amazingly funny. No-one expected it and apparently it looked completely rehersed! We followed it with "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and then "Tonight's Gonna Be a Good Night" by the Black Eyed Peas.. By this time everyone was on the dance floor, and the party really got started. We had all wine, beer and soft drinks paid for, which went down really well. And at midnight we had cones of fish and chips. So we had the lovely traditional church wedding, and a relaxed, informal and extremely fun reception. Not a single thing went wrong, and it really was the best day of my life. We kept costs pretty low by not having a sit down meal (even though we got way more food than you normally would) and also by not having a large wedding party. We just had 1 bridesmaid and a bestman. This was great, far less stress, no arguing. I would strongly recommend. A stress-free wedding, who would of thought!... |

Wedding rebooked
Englishbride happy again!
Hi All,
Happy news, after the heartache of cancelling my wedding for the 2nd time, I've just rebooked it, and we are getting married on 14th May next year, which oddly enough is only 2 days later than the first date we had, although on the other side of the world! So we are getting married in late spring/early summer in the UK, in the little village where we met. We will be flying over from Australia where we live, 2 weeks earlier, and all dress fittings, hair trials etc will have to happen then. Ryan actually agreed on getting married in the church which is excellent as I really wanted to do this, but wasn't sure he would. And our reception is right across the road, literally a 20 meter walk! So I'm back to planning. I actually bought myself a wedding magazine yesterday (the 1st in ages, believe it or not I only actually own 1 other!) and have been looking at photos of my dress on-line and getting all gooey! Damn, I wish my dress was here, but it's over in the UK. So I'm still flying back to England for 3 weeks over xmas, and I'm going to try and schedule my 1st dress fitting then and I literally cannot wait. It's been so long since I saw my dress (18 months!) but I just know I'm going to love it. Right, gotta actually go and do some gardening. For those of you who know me, remember I bought that house with the acre garden? Well, I love it but it keeps me soooooo busy. Am also happy that I've managed to grow 1 tomato, which is an achievement I think as I've never grown a single thing in my life, LOL! Just wanted to say, love you girls! |

So frustrated
Wedding cancelled... again!
Urgh, I'm sorry to vent, especially as I've been absent for a while, but I just feel so down and over it, I've not been on here for weeks, it's just been too frustrating.
My FH started his new job a few weeks ago, and it's going really well. But just after he started, he told me that he thought it was unlikely he would get time off to fly to England for our wedding. And since knowing this, all my enthusiasm just died. He applied for the leave the other day, and we just heard his request has been turned down. So for the second time, I've had to cancel our wedding. Luckily this time we hadn't put any money down, as the lovely people at our venue let us book it without a deposit because of what happened last time. But even so, I can't believe I've had to go through this twice! However, on the bright side, we have decided to try for May, and that means a second trip home to my family only 5 months apart, and that's great as I have a niece/nephew due next month, and I hate that I'll be missing out. May will be late Spring, so hopefully a nice time of year, and I don't think there will be any problem with Ryan getting the time off then. He's already put in his request, so hopefully we will know in a week or 2. I guess once I have it confirmed, I will get my mojo back! I hope so. So apologies girls, for not being around at all over the last few weeks, once I get my head back together, I'll try and be more supportive of you all! |

At last
Englishbride finally got my new house
After what feels like months of stress and hard work, Ryan and I finally moved into our new house (see the picture, how cute is this?). We are so happy with it, although the lady that lived here before left it like a pigsty and we've been clearing up all weekend. We haven't even been able to unpack yet.
But the best thing is sitting on that gorgeous deck in the morning,as the sun is rising, looking over the amazing view (its really pretty). We have sooooo much work to do on it, but we have to take our time, but it's really exciting. And Ryan starts his new job tomorrow, so he now has to be away for the next 5 nights, so I'm actually all alone. But I'm really happy for him and his new job, although I feel really nervous for him! Right, now I've got to catch up on everyone else's blogs as haven't been able to get on here for the last few days. |

Wedding Hair Style
Englishbride finally bought something
Yesterday i totally surprised myself by buying something for the wedding. With having no money lately and not able to confirm the wedding date yet, I've only really been having ideas, but not actually doing/buying stuff.
Then yesterday I was at the supermarket and a little accessory shop just outside was having a sale. I already looked in there for flower clips and they were all horrible, but I thought I would have a rummage anyway. And I found this flower (excuse the messy hair in the pic) and thought it was gorgeous, and exactly my colours. It had no price tag on it, and most of the others were around $30-$40, much more than I want to spend. I took it to the counter, but she couldn't find a price. She asked what it was for, and I told her about my wedding. SO then she said as she didn't know what the price was, she would let me have it for $4! I mean seriously, $4. How nice was that? And not exactly budget breaking! I love it when people do random acts of kindness for no reason, especially when you don't even know them. Has anyone else experienced a kind act like this from any of your vendors? My happy mood continues... |

So happy
Amazing news today. After a lot of stress lately with my FH being out of work, he has just signed a contract for a new job! Woohoo!
He has been underpaid and miserable for a long time, and recently his boss sold part of the business, which gave Ryan the perfect opportunity to get out. Trouble is it couldn't have been worse timing as we are buying a house, and it is due to go through on Wednesday (woohoo to that too!) and with a new mortgage and rent to pay (as we can't find anyone to take over our rental) my wage just doesn't cut it. Even better, is that his new job gives him a 6 figure salary! I almost fell over when I heard. This is just so good. He will have to work long shifts, andf stay away from home, but only 4 days at a time, so we will cope. Once we get the house, we will actually be able to do some renovations to it! And once he's been there for a month, he can organise annual leave, and hopefully will actually get time off to fly back to England in Jan for our wedding! Haven't really been able to publish much about the wedding recently, as we can't actually confirm that it will definitely go ahead until he gets that confirmation. Things are finally starting to come together. Just fingers crossed that all goes smoothly on wednesday with the settlement on the house! Just wanted to share my good news with you ladies, and also explain why I hardly ever write any posts! |

Ask a Question
Should I do this for 1st dance?
So I'm sitting here on saturday morning casually reading everyone else's blogs, and I've got the TV on in the background and its on a music channel and I just had this huge inspiration that I just had to comment on, and also I NEED opinions on this one, so please comment.
FH and I have been slightly panicking about the 1st dance. Neither of us are slushy romantic types and although I love the sentiment and always cry when I see other people do it (I do love some romance), I think we would just look awkward! And we really want to put some fun into our wedding, so we had thought about doing one of those dances that starts off romantic, then cuts to something wild and we do a crazy dance. We've seen quite a few of these around at the moment, especially on you-tube but also don't want to copy everyone else's ideas. So we were totally stuck for what we would do. And then this song just came on, and at the same time a lightbulb in my head switched on. The song was by The Pigs (I never heard of them) and was a country version of Beyonces' Put a Ring On It. It was hilarious. So I'm having visions of us doing like a really upbeat and crazy country/Western dancing/line dance, maybe even using cowboy hats and boots, and maybe even teaching a couple of the wedding party to join us half way through. I'm thinking we wouldn't actually do this 1st, but maybe later in the night like around 9pm while everyone is still there, but the party atmosphere is definitely going, and I'd probably change into a shorter dress. My family and friends all joke that I turned into a country bumpkin when I moved to small-town australia (which I kind of did) and I think this would just be perfect. But am I right? Is this too crazy, does it just sound stupid to you? Tell me for real, because I don't want to get carried away with myself doing something that everyone else doesn't get! Please please let me know what you think. |

Wedding Reception
Food- fish & chips?
While commenting on MacBride's post about the type of food we were having at our reception, I realised I haven't even commented on it on my own blog!
We have decided to go a little different with our reception. Part of it is that we are trying to be quite casual and relaxed (which suits our style) and the other part is finances! We have decided against a formal sit down meal, and are therefore not going to have a table plan (this is a brilliant idea on my part as was dreading the dramas of a seating plan, LOL). At our reception site they have lots of table and chairs with funky style seating, but it doesn't really suit a sit down meal either. So instead we are having what they call "bowl food". There are so many options of really delicious food, including cones of fish & chips, shepherd's pie, chilli, risotto, pasta, cous cous, fish pie, mussels, beef and mashed potato, and loads more. It is called "casual dining". So people can sit, stand, move around as they want, and still get a really good feed too! It's amazing how cheap this, the whole package of ceremony, reception including food is $2,500. I think this is a steal! So because its so cheap we are going to lay on a decent bar package to get everyone in the mood! I'm hoping my idea of causal dining, doesn't result in me trying to balance a plate and glass of champagne as I move around and spill it down my dress, haha! Is anyone else doing anything a bit different? I'd love to hear if you are, and what made you decide to do it that way? |

Wedding Reception
Ancient English building
This is where we are getting married, it is called Wesley House, and annoyingly I can't seem to attach photos of the exterior, which is in total contrast to the interior. Its all old stone and wooden beams. It is an ancient building, and is even named after the founder of the methodist church who stayed there in 1755!
I love the old meets new, and the relaxed style of the place. I can't wait to get married there. It is in this gorgeous little village in England where my FH and I met 4 years ago. We haven't yet decided if we will actually marry there (although I love that room) or if we will marry in the church which is exactly opposite it on the other side of the road! I'm going to add decorations (as yet undecided), but as we are not going to have a formal sit down meal, I love the funky furniture where people can just relax and mingle as they choose. |
