Ask a Question
Rehearsal Dinner Barbeque?

Has anyone ever done this? I love the idea of just having our close friends and family over for a casual barbeque...and since the ceremony is at my parent's home, it would work out perfectly.

Any tips? I found this website: http://www.ehow.com/how_2188927_plan-rehearsal-dinner-bbq.html

for those that like the idea...but just wondered if anyone had any suggestions...

We are thinking of doing the same thing. The church is near my mom's house so we thought that this would be easier and probably cheaper. Plus I am getting married in August so it would work.

We are doing the same thing, hosted by the groom's parents, who live right near where we are getting married. I think it will be a lot of fun.. the only think I'm worried about id if it rains.. then we'll have to move everything inside which won't be as nice.

I am having a BBQ in my backyard, I love the idea, I have an apple tree in the yard, we are going to hand laterns and rent about 5 tables and my few family members who are coming out of town a few close friends and our bridal party. SInce our wedding is Memorial Day weekend they deserve a BBQ! I think its a nice cheap casual way to show your apprecation to your family and friends!

I would have LOVED to do this but we're getting married away from home.  Actually, since my brother's wedding rehearsal and dinner was two days before the wedding I had all of our family over for dinner to my house the night before the wedding.  It was great but it was a little too chilly to be outside (in August for pete's sake!) that everyone had to cram inside.  My house was swarmed!

I love this Idea aswell!! We are planning on doing a thank you bbq dinner instead of a rehearsal dinner, Were having the wedding on my parents farm and were having a tent. The tent will be delievered and set up tuesday. Well start set up wednesday and thursday and do the final stuff friday and that night well have a BBQ to say thankyou to everyone who helped out. I think this is a great Idea because 1 its the cheaper option 2 its a relax setting for your friends and family to mingle... Sounds like a good time to me!

This is common where I live. I don't know of anyone who has actually had a formal rehersal dinner. I think if it's your style, do it! Pretty much guaranteed to be fun.

we are doing a bbq for our rehersal. It'll be fun and casual, my church is 45 mins from home and really close to my moms. We both love just sitting back having some good food and having fun with our friends and family. Plus, it'll be a great way for everyone to mingle and get to know one another before the big day!

Oddly enough, my FH and I are going to try to pull this off at our wedding.  The beach house we rented can only accommodate 60 people and since we wanted a small intimate wedding anyway.. that was okay for us (We don't have a lot of family.)  I am a little nervous and that about having a BBQ for a wedding.. but I think it adds to an extremely more relaxing atmosphere and who doesn't like a BBQ?  Of course we are going to try to incorporate more indulging side dishes..but our meats will be typically hamburgers, brats, hot dogs, and we may throw some New York strips on there as well.  We have two people who will be doing the grilling on two large grills.. I am actually pretty excited about it.  However, it IS out of the norm but it is what we were going for in the first place.  We both LOVE BBQs so it is only natural that we have that.

Yep! We're having ours as a bbq outside at FMILs house since she just moved into a big house sorta in the country with a nice pool and everything. We're not real formal people so we wanted a casual fun rehearsal dinner!

My Fiance and I wanted to do this as well, but my Mom said she'd rather we didn't!  Her reasons being that some people might feel inclined to stay late at our house and we would want to get to bed early.  She is also a neat freak and can never go to bed until everything has been cleaned up afterwards (especially in this case since photographers will be coming the next day).  Either way, I guess it depends on the type of guests you will have.  My guests like to party so we're having our rehearsal dinner at an informal place in our town called Ramekins.  They can stay there and drink and chat until their hearts content!!

My son is getting married and we decided to throw a BBQ rehearsal dinner.  It will be catered, and we liked the ideal of not being at a looooooong table where you can't get up and socialize freely.  I wanted it to be like the show Dallas when Sue Ellen and JR got married. Lol.......  An upscale downhome BBQ.  YEE HA!!!!!!

We're doing this!! My sister did this as well and it worked great! It was so nice to just relax at a casual event.  She had her rehearsal at the church at I think 7:30... we went to the bbq at 3 or 4pm.  That way we were out of the grooms parents (who hosted) house early. We're not sure whether we're going to do a 5pm rehearsal and have the bbq after or have the 7pm rehearsal and do it before.  But yes, I love this idea!
