Have you seen the movie, 27 dresses where Katherine Hiegl's closet nearly bursts open with all her old bridesmaid dresses nearly tumbling at her?
Well this image and the idea that all my girlfriends have been a bridesmaid at one time or another came to mind as I was deciding who to choose for my bridal party. In the end, I decided to spare my friends the embarrassment of having to wear that wear-once, ugly bridesmaid dress by making them all my honorary bridesmaids while having all the focus be on my fiancee and myself.
I'm an event planner by trade so I don't really need all the usual help a normal bride might want. In fact, I hardly want to give up the event planning duties at all! So much so that I'm already planning my own bridal shower theme and details.
I quickly drafted a makeshift invite (see picture) which explains the "always a bridesmaid theme" and asks each honorary bridesmaid to wear a bridesmaid dress (from their past) to my bridal shower (and never again). I think it will be a great photo opportunity to get the whole group in mismatched, outdated, sometimes embarrassing bridesmaid outfits. I have my tripod and photo props ready to go! (photo props to include tiaras, feather boas, bridal magazines, top hats etc).
Here are some notes I jotted down regarding the party planning. let me know if you have anything else to add!
Have 27 dresses playing in the background during party
Make tea sandwiches and have bite-sized appetizers and desserts displayed on cupcake tower with an elegant tea setup
Create Best bridesmaid quiz and Bridesmaid bingo with gem stickers as bingo spots
Personalized bottle water
Ribbon wedding bell and program assembly task
Chair backs named bridesmaid
Encourage bridesmaids to sign guestbook with favorite memory of the bride
